Responsibilities

  1. Internal Tool Development:
  • Assist in building, maintaining, and optimizing internal tools and dashboards using Retool to improve team productivity and operational efficiency.
  • Support the enhancement of existing Retool applications under the guidance of senior team members.
  • Assist in troubleshooting and debugging Retool applications to improve performance and usability.
  • Identify and escalate technical issues to senior team members when necessary.
  1. Collaboration with Teams:
  • Work with cross-functional teams, including client services, marketing analysts, and data engineers, to identify internal tooling needs.
  • Translate business requirements into functional Retool applications with support from senior team members.
  1. Documentation and Knowledge Sharing:
  • Work closely with analysts, engineers, data scientists and other stakeholders to understand data requirements.
  • Contribute to documentation of tools, workflows, and best practices to ensure maintainability.
  • Maintain records of application updates and enhancements for future reference.
  • Stay updated on Retool features, database management, and API integrations.
  • Participate in training sessions to develop technical and problem-solving skills.
  1. User Support:
  • Provide basic technical support to end-users of Retool applications.
  1. Data Engineering Support:
  • Understand the development and maintenance of data pipelines and ETL (Extract, Transform, Load) processes.
  • Work under the guidance of senior team members to ensure data workflows are optimized.
  1. Data Science Support:
  • Help prepare and clean data for machine learning models and analytics workflows.
  • Assist in running model workflows, validating results, and reporting errors to senior team members.
  • Monitor the performance of deployed models and escalate issues as needed.
  • Document data science workflows and processes for future reference
  1. Database and Querying:
  • Work with relational and non-relational databases to store, organize, and retrieve data.
  • Write and optimize SQL queries with guidance from senior team members
  1. Data Management:
  • Assist in collecting, cleaning, and preprocessing raw data from various sources to ensure accuracy and reliability.
  1. Quality Assurance:
  • Conduct basic testing to ensure data accuracy and integrity across systems and reports.
  • Identify and report data inconsistencies or anomalies.

Qualifications

Education & Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Data Science, Information Systems, Engineering, or a related field (or equivalent experience).
  • 1-3 years of experience in data engineering, business intelligence, analytics, or a related technical role.
  • Experience working with internal tool development (Retool experience is a must).

Technical Skills

  • Retool & Internal Tools: Experience building and maintaining dashboards, applications, or internal tools using Retool.
  • SQL Proficiency: Ability to write and optimize SQL queries for data extraction and manipulation(Snowflake experience is a requirement).
  • Data Engineering Basics: Understanding of data pipelines, ETL (Extract, Transform, Load) processes, and data workflow optimization.
  • Database Management: Familiarity with relational (e.g., PostgreSQL, MySQL) and non-relational databases (e.g., MongoDB).
  • Data Science Fundamentals: Basic understanding of machine learning concepts, model workflows, and data preparation techniques.
  • Programming Skills (Preferred): Familiarity with Python or other programming languages for data analysis and scripting.
  • API & Integration(Preferred): Understanding of API usage and integration with internal tools.
  • AWS Knowledge (Preferred): Exposure to AWS services like S3, Redshift, and Glue for data storage and processing.

Soft Skills

  • Problem-Solving: Ability to troubleshoot and debug internal tools and data processes.
  • Collaboration: Strong communication skills to work effectively with cross-functional teams, including analysts, data scientists, and engineers.
  • Attention to Detail: Ability to identify and report data inconsistencies and anomalies.
  • Documentation & Knowledge Sharing: Experience writing documentation for data workflows, tools, and best practices.
  • Adaptability & Learning: Willingness to stay updated on emerging technologies, Retool enhancements, and data engineering trends.
  • Travel Requirements: Must be able and willing to travel between NY & Dallas offices and to client and other company meetings within the U.S., as needed.

January Digital is committed to providing our employees with flexible work options that allow them to balance their professional and personal responsibilities. As such, we offer a hybrid work policy that allows employees to divide their time between working in the office and working remotely. Under this policy, employees are required to work in either our Dallas or NYC office at least 5 days per month, however you are welcomed to come in as often as you'd like! These days will be determined by your manager and/or team.

The salary range for this role is $70,000 to $85,000, depending on experience. Our salary ranges are based on paying competitively for our size and industry and are one part of the total compensation package that also includes a bi-annual performance bonus, free health insurance, annual wellness stipend, company 401k contribution, & more.
