We are the International Renewable Energy Agency (IRENA), an intergovernmental organisation dedicated to supporting countries as they transition to a sustainable energy future. Founded in 2009, we have grown to include 170 member states and the European Union, with more countries in the process of joining. Our core mission is to serve as the principal platform for international cooperation in the renewable energy sector. We act as a centre of excellence and a global repository of policy, technology, resource, and financial knowledge on renewables. Our work is driven by the conviction that renewable energy offers vast opportunities to address global challenges like energy security, price volatility, and climate change, paving the way for a sustainable, low-carbon economy.

We actively promote the widespread adoption and sustainable use of all forms of renewable energy, including bioenergy, geothermal, hydropower, ocean, solar, and wind power. Our goal is to advance sustainable development, ensure energy access for all, enhance energy security, and foster low-carbon economic growth and prosperity. To achieve this, we provide a range of services and practical support to both industrialised and developing nations. We help governments improve their regulatory frameworks, build institutional capacity, and facilitate access to reliable data on renewable energy potential. By fostering dialogue, sharing best practices, and encouraging investment, we bring together diverse stakeholders—from governments and the private sector to civil society and academia—to accelerate the global energy transition.
