Job Description:
We are looking for a Principal Risk Engineer with deep technical expertise in large-scale systems, data, and machine learning. You will lead the design, development, and deployment of our Risk Platform, ensuring reliability, performance, and flexibility to meet complex risk and compliance needs. This role requires strong problem-solving ability, hands-on technical depth, and proven leadership experience in building and guiding high-performing engineering teams.
ResponsibilitiesLead the development of the technology and platform supporting our risk needs, ensuring high reliability, performance, and flexibility.
Own the architecture and technical vision of the Risk Platform in close partnership with the Senior Director of Risk Engineering.
Collaborate with Risk Product and Risk & Compliance teams to deeply understand business requirements and deliver effective technical solutions.
Partner with Data and AI teams to leverage data and ML/AI platforms for solving risk-related problems.
Drive technical excellence by challenging the status quo and implementing innovative solutions.
Provide mentorship, coaching, and guidance to risk engineering teams, upholding strong engineering practices and DORA metrics.
Build an inclusive, innovative, and high-performing global engineering team by attracting and developing top talent.
Ensure reliable production execution of risk systems with strong observability and transparency.
Collaborate with Security, SRE, and line-of-business engineering teams to integrate risk services and meet SLOs, security requirements, and error budgets.
Contribute to long-term risk strategy while meeting near-term priorities through strong leadership and technical execution.
10+ years of large-scale software design and development experience, with deep hands-on expertise in architecture, development, deployment, and operations.
Strong background in risk systems, including architecting and developing enterprise-scale risk platforms.
Experience with ML/AI and applying data-driven methods to risk management.
Familiarity with modern cloud services and infrastructure (AWS, Azure, Kubernetes, Lambda, S3, EMR, etc.).
Proven leadership skills: building, mentoring, and guiding high-performing engineering teams.
Excellent problem-solving and analytical skills, with the ability to drive technical strategy and execution in a matrixed organization.
Strong communication skills, able to engage effectively with senior leadership and cross-functional stakeholders.
Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or related field (Master’s/PhD preferred).
Knowledge of payments systems is a plus.
