Job Description:
We are looking for a Principal AI/ML Engineer with deep technical expertise in large-scale systems, machine learning, and AI infrastructure. You will lead the design, development, and deployment of a foundational ML platform that supports our business needs across fraud detection, telematics, and other data-driven applications. This role requires a technically hands-on leader with strong software engineering skills, proven experience in ML/AI systems, and the ability to provide strategic thought leadership while guiding engineering teams.
ResponsibilitiesLead the development of our AI/ML infrastructure, ensuring reliability, scalability, and performance.
Design and implement platform architecture for AI/ML model development, training, deployment, and monitoring.
Partner with Data Science, ML Engineering, and business stakeholders to deliver AI solutions that support fraud detection, telematics, and analytics use cases.
Drive technical vision and strategy for AI/ML, balancing near-term execution with long-term innovation.
Collaborate with security, SRE, and LOB engineering teams to ensure secure, high-performance integration of AI/ML platforms.
Provide mentorship and technical guidance across engineering teams, upholding best practices, strong engineering principles, and continuous improvement.
Represent us externally as a thought leader in AI/ML, including conferences and industry forums.
Establish clear, measurable quality goals and ensure accountability for achieving them through data-driven OKRs.
Engage with external partners and vendors to evaluate and integrate complementary technologies.
15–20 years of large-scale software design and development experience.
Strong programming skills, with proficiency in Java and Python.
Experience building supervised and unsupervised ML models; reinforcement learning and LLM experience are a plus.
Expertise in distributed computing frameworks (Ray, Spark) and containerization/orchestration tools (Kubernetes, Terraform).
Familiarity with cloud platforms (AWS, Azure) and services such as S3, EMR, and Lambda.
Hands-on experience with MLOps, CI/CD automation, and production-grade ML lifecycle management.
Strong background in big data and large-scale data platforms.
Experience with SageMaker is a plus.
Proven leadership in building and guiding engineering teams, fostering collaboration, transparency, and innovation.
Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills, with ability to address complex challenges.
Strong written and verbal communication skills; ability to influence and align stakeholders across technical and business teams.
Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or related field; Master’s/PhD preferred.
Knowledge of payments and risk systems is a plus.
