What began as a visionary idea in 1969 has blossomed into one of the world's most iconic beauty retailers. Founded by Dominique Mandonnaud in Limoges, France, Sephora started with a revolutionary concept: a 'self-service' retail environment where customers could freely explore and test products, breaking away from the traditional, guarded counter model of the time. This bold approach to beauty retail democratized the shopping experience, inviting customers to touch, smell, and play with products without barriers.

In 1997, Sephora joined the LVMH Moët Hennessy Louis Vuitton family, the world's leading luxury goods group, which propelled its global expansion. The brand made its debut in the United States in 1998 with its first store in New York City, quickly captivating American consumers with its distinctive black-and-white striped branding and unparalleled assortment of prestige products. Today, Sephora operates thousands of stores across 35 countries, continuing to innovate with digital-first experiences, a world-class loyalty program, and a commitment to diversity and inclusion that shapes the future of the beauty industry.
