Position Summary:
IEM is looking for a Full Time – Deputy Manager for IEM’s Humanitarian Response Operations team.
Primary Location:
- Candidate can originate from anywhere in the United States.
- Candidate will work remotely from home or personal office location; however, periodic attendance of onsite meetings may be required with the HERO manager.
- All remote work environments require the ability to maintain minimum Internet speeds of 25 Mbps upload and 3 Mbps download, as well as a ping rate of 100ms or less during working hours, regardless of the type and number of devices using your Internet connection. The candidate must also have account privileges and access to an Internet service provider account during working hours for the purposes of maintaining the Internet connection, if needed.
Travel Requirements:
- This position may require travel in-country and/or abroad to complete work assignments or attend meetings.
Essential Functions:
As a deputy manager, the candidate will be a key member of the Humanitarian Response Operations team, working closely with the HERO manager. The candidate be responsible for:
- Leading and motivating the team on projects and contract bids and ensuring that targets are met.
- Supporting the HERO manager with the administration of business operations and assisting in the preparation and presentation of reports as required by the division manager.
- Work in a team environment while assisting in the management, coordination, and evaluation of the performance of team members.
- Directing team members and providing feedback on project tasks as needed.
- Evaluating, estimating, and proactively managing team-related workload requirements.
- Managing proposal development and technical proposal writing of team members.
- Attending meetings with the HERO manager (or in their absence); supporting the development of meeting materials; and facilitating meetings for clients.
- Assisting in reviewing budgets, financial statements, and/or reports to identify areas for improvement or possible risks.
- Conducting data collection; creating documentation; and providing other research and duties as necessary to support a wide range of division tasks and overall business development.
- Supporting division activities and applying technical knowledge and expertise to analyze and develop procedures in support of team operations.
- Providing research assistance to support potential projects on international regulations for programs, guidance, and technical materials.
- Assisting with the induction of new team members, providing training and support as needed.
- Assisting the manager in working with clients.
- Providing leadership to team members by modeling work ethic and resolving conflicts.
- Reviewing team member timecards and/or expense reports for accuracy.
- In the absence of the HERO manager, the candidate will be required to take charge and make decisions in line with company policy.
Minimum Qualifications:
- Education - bachelor’s degree in a relevant field such as International Relations, Political Science, Public Administration, Business Administration, Development Studies, Emergency Management, or a related discipline.
- 5-10 years of local or state emergency management experience.
- 1-2 years of management or supervision experience.
- Excellent verbal and written communication, interpersonal, and problem-solving skills.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Knowledge of applicable company policies, requirements, procedures, and guidelines.
- Firm understanding of current humanitarian crisis policies, guidance, and plans.
- Proficiency in humanitarian response planning and operations, project and/or program management, risk assessment, and emergency preparedness standards.
- Knowledge and previous experience supporting disaster response operations for federal, state, local, and/or international clients.
