Job Description
HII Mission Technologies Global Security group is seeking a Software Engineer 5 to join our Internal Research and Development team! This is a full-time remote position. As a Lead Software Engineer, you will play a critical role as part of the Internal Research and Development team in the planning, research, design, development, and testing work needed to create high quality software that is ready for transition to direct customers. You will be expected to build and improve large software projects by working with a Product Owner, Scrum Master, and other Engineers to translate functional requirements into robust, scalable, and supportable solutions. You will participate in the full development lifecycle and actively troubleshoot issues in support of applications in production critical environments. This is a full-time remote position, and the candidate must be able to work during Eastern Time zone hours.
Essential Job Responsibilities
- Designs, develops, documents, tests and debugs applications software and systems that contain logical and mathematical solutions.
- Conducts multidisciplinary research and collaborates with equipment designers and/or hardware engineers in the planning, design, development, and utilization of electronic data processing systems for product and commercial software.
- Analyzes system capabilities to resolve problems on program intent, output requirements, input data acquisition, programming techniques and controls. Provide technical solutions to a wide range of complex difficult problems. Solutions are imaginative, thorough, practicable, and consistent with organization objectives.
- Works under consultative direction toward predetermined long-range goals and objectives. Assignments are often self-initiated. Determines and pursues courses of action necessary to obtain desired results. Develops advanced technological ideas and guides their development into a final product.
- Frequent inter-organizational and outside customer contacts. Represents organization in providing solutions to difficult technical issues associated with specific projects.
- Provides team leadership in compliance with software development standards including coding standards, code reviews, source control, build processes, testing, and operations.
Minimum Qualifications
- 15 years relevant experience with Bachelors in related field; 13 years relevant experience with Masters in related field; 10 years relevant experience with PhD or Juris Doctorate in related field; or High School Diploma or equivalent and 19 years relevant experience.
- Ability to obtain and maintain a DoD Secret Clearance.
- Proficient is developing software in at least one modern programming language such as Java, JavaScript, Python, or C++.
- Direct experience with web application development tools, including Docker, Spring Security, and Java Messaging Services (JMS) or ActiveMQ for service communication.
Preferred Requirements
- 10 years of experience developing DoD distributed constructive simulations (e.g., JSAF, NGTS) and interoperability translation services (e.g., JBUS, LVCDT).
