The Boeing Company is looking for a Senior Software Engineer - DevSecOps (Virtual) to join the High Fidelity Virtual Cab (HFVC) team. This work includes managing cloud infrastructure, development pipelines, deployment pipelines, and managing computing infrastructure compliance for activities related to the development and integration of game engines, virtual machines, models and simulations.

The selected DevSecOps candidate will be the Lead for the Simulation Integration & Modeling (SIM) organization, supporting multiple teams within SIM, including HFVC team. Duties will include:

  • Support Boeing Software Factory (BSF) transition/cloud environments, setting up infrastructure to support complex simulations.

  • Configure various AWS services such as EC2 instances, VPCs, security groups, subnets, and other AWS tools, along with Azure.

  • Building a platform that helps the organization more fully adopt practices like continuous integration and continuous delivery (CI/CD) and automated testing.

  • Working on ways to continuously improve the stability, efficiency and performance of the platform.

  • Maintain and manage servers to ensure IT compliance with Boeing's security and operational standards.

  • Develop, maintain, and administer tools that deal with Export Compliance, Software License Compliance, Metrics, and Assigned User Groups/Projects.

  • Develop and maintain a roadmap and architecture for DevSecOps for all of SIM organization, coordinating with multiple SIM teams and architects.

This position has been identified as a virtual opportunity and does not require applicants to live in Long Beach, CA.

Position Responsibilities:

  • Leads development, documentation and maintenance of standardized, efficient, and innovative processes, tools, methodologies, and performance metrics to streamline the software engineering lifecycle and enable continuous integration, delivery, and deployment of safety critical software.

  • Leads automation, development, monitoring, improvement, and troubleshooting across software development, tooling, testing, integration, deployment, configuration processes, and security controls.

  • Leads analysis, planning, and execution of mitigation strategies to prevent potential security risks, threats, and vulnerabilities.

  • Implements an environment that enables high levels of quality, safety, compliance, and continuous improvement across the organization.

  • Collaborates with cross functional teams to build and maintain robust, scalable, and secure software engineering systems.

  • Leads implementation of current and emerging technologies, tools, frameworks, and regulations in the software engineering DevSecOps environment.

Basic Qualifications (Required Skills/ Experience):

  • Ability to obtain a U.S. Security Clearance

  • 5+ years of experience in development frameworks, cloud native technologies and tools, such as CI/CD pipelines, UML, Java, .Net, Docker, Kubernetes, JavaScript, AWS/Azure Cloud

  • 5+ years of experience automating software builds, unit tests, integration tests, deployment, and installations using a DevOps tool chain (Jenkins, Nexus, Artifactory, etc)

  • 5+ years of experience architecting, designing, and implementing a DevOps infrastructure for a program

  • 5+ years of experience in Linux, Windows systems administration

Preferred Qualifications (Desired Skills/Experience):

  • Bachelor of Science degree from an accredited course of study in engineering, engineering technology (includes manufacturing engineering technology), chemistry, physics, mathematics, data science, or computer science

  • Knowledge of cloud architecture, including the different types of clouds (public, private, and hybrid), the different cloud platforms and the various components involved (computing, storage and networking). Ability to automate and script skills. Knowledge of containerization technologies which includes understanding how to manage containers, deploy applications in a containerized environment, and troubleshoot issues. Knowledge of understanding of networking concepts, including IP addressing, subnetting, routing, and security (focus on security best practices and technologies).

  • Knowledge of host environments, including processors, operating systems and networks. Ability to build, integrate and troubleshoot software components.

  • Ability to develop new network technology. Knowledge of network communication concepts, principles and architectures, associated with network planning, design, integration and maintenance. End-to-end knowledge of network transport technologies, systems, environments, services, protocols, performance monitoring and diagnostic analysis. Knowledge of network security techniques, network management practices and principles.

  • Knowledge of general and software development and testing tools, capability and usage. Examples include compilers, linkers, debuggers, data analysis tools, graphical user interface builders, post processing tools, requirements management tools, and web authoring tools.

  • Ability to design and develop automation of software tests, execute automated tests, track results, manage test data, and utilize results to improve software quality.

  • Ability to understand the big picture and the inter-relationships of all positions and activities in the system, including the impact of changes in one area on another area. This includes the ability to see and understand the inter-relationships between components of systems and plans, anticipate future events, and apply the principles of systems thinking to accelerate performance.

The Boeing Company's story began in 1916, when American lumber industrialist William E. Boeing founded Pacific Aero Products Company in Seattle, Washington. This venture was sparked by his fascination with airplanes, which he first encountered at the Alaska-Yukon-Pacific Exposition in 1909. A year later, he acquired a wooden boat manufacturing plant that would become his first airplane factory. Teaming up with U.S. Navy officer Conrad Westervelt, Boeing developed the B&W seaplane. In 1917, the company was renamed Boeing Airplane Company. The early years saw Boeing building 'flying boats' for the Navy during World War I and later supplying trainers, pursuit planes, observation craft, torpedo planes, and patrol bombers to the U.S. military throughout the 1920s and 30s.

The late 1920s marked Boeing's expansion into airmail services, and in 1928, William Boeing formed the Boeing Airplane & Transport Corporation to encompass both manufacturing and airline operations. This was followed by a renaming to United Aircraft and Transport Corporation in 1929 and the acquisition of several aircraft makers, including Pratt & Whitney and Sikorsky Aviation. In 1931, the company consolidated its airline holdings into United Airlines. However, antitrust legislation in 1934 mandated the separation of aircraft manufacturing from air transportation, leading to the dissolution of United Aircraft and Transport. This resulted in the formation of three independent entities: Boeing Airplane Company, United Airlines, and United Aircraft Corporation (later United Technologies). Despite this restructuring and a temporary dip in employment, the looming World War II revived Boeing's fortunes with significant orders for bombers. The company became a major contributor to the Allied war effort, producing iconic aircraft like the B-17 Flying Fortress and B-29 Superfortress. Post-war, Boeing continued its military aircraft production with jets like the B-47 Stratojet and B-52 Stratofortress, while also venturing into the commercial jetliner market with the 707 in 1958. The company officially became The Boeing Company in 1961, reflecting its diversification into fields beyond aircraft, including missiles and space technology. A significant merger with McDonnell Douglas Corporation in 1997 further solidified Boeing's position as a global aerospace leader. Over the decades, Boeing has continued to innovate and expand, moving its corporate headquarters from Seattle to Chicago in 2001, and then to Arlington, Virginia, in 2022.
