About grinta
Grinta was founded in 2021 by a group of entrepreneurs, pharmacists, and doctors, including Mohamed Azab, Yosra Badr, Ali Youssef, and Hamza Mohamed (also referred to as Hamza Tag in one source). These founders brought a collective experience in healthcare, digital transformation, and supply chain to the table. The company emerged as a fintech-enabled B2B tech platform with a mission to modernize the pharmaceutical supply chain, initially focusing on empowering independent pharmacies in Egypt. From its inception, Grinta aimed to provide a seamless and easy-to-use end-to-end platform, offering access to a full spectrum of traceable pharmaceutical and medical products from multiple vendors. Beyond just a marketplace, Grinta incorporated services like fulfillment, demand planning, and inventory financing to support pharmacies.
The company quickly embarked on an expansion strategy. Since its start in 2021, Grinta has been aggressive in its growth, acquiring two companies early on: PH Store, a similar digital platform in northern Egypt, and EME, a software development company with a strong tech team. These acquisitions helped Grinta expand its reach across seven governorates in Egypt, registering over 14,000 pharmacies on its platform and delivering more than 100,000 orders within its first year or so. In 2022, Grinta secured $8 million in Seed funding, co-led by Raed Ventures and Nclude, with participation from Endeavor Catalyst and 500 Global, bringing its total funding at that point to $9.5 million. This capital was earmarked for scaling its tech platform, expanding its team, and accelerating growth in the Egyptian market. By August 2023, Grinta made its third acquisition, Auto-Cure, a B2B e-commerce platform serving independent pharmacists in Alexandria, further solidifying its presence in Egypt and expanding its reach to over 400 additional pharmacies. More recently, in March 2025, Grinta announced another funding round led by Beltone Venture Capital and Raed Ventures (amount undisclosed) and a strategic acquisition of Citi Clinic, a primary healthcare service chain in Egypt with access to over 150,000 patients. This latest move signals a pivot for Grinta, expanding its focus from a B2B marketplace to include direct patient care, with plans to further expand into East Africa and build a pharmacy chain in Tanzania. Grinta is working with all stakeholders across the value chain – manufacturers, distributors, wholesalers, and pharmacies – to build a data-driven, reliable, and efficient pharmaceutical supply chain, leveraging artificial intelligence and machine learning technologies.
