Recognizing the monumental potential of this finding, GRAIL was founded in January 2016. The name 'GRAIL' itself reflects the ambitious vision of our co-founders: the belief that a simple blood test could indeed be the 'holy grail' of cancer detection.

To turn this vision into reality, we've assembled a dedicated and diverse team of leading scientists, engineers, and clinicians. We are leveraging high-intensity sequencing, conducting population-scale clinical studies, and applying state-of-the-art computer science and data science to deepen the world's understanding of cancer biology. Our pioneering product, the Galleri® multi-cancer early detection (MCED) test, is a testament to this commitment. This first-of-its-kind test can screen for many of the deadliest cancers that currently lack recommended screening options. Our proprietary targeted methylation platform is at the heart of our innovation, enabling us to identify the most informative regions of the genome and utilize machine-learning algorithms to detect cancer-associated methylation patterns and even predict the cancer signal's origin.
