Goodstart Early Learning

In 2009, when ABC Learning collapsed and left thousands of families uncertain about their children's care, four of Australia's leading community organizations saw an opportunity to transform early learning. The Benevolent Society, Brotherhood of St Laurence, Mission Australia, and Social Ventures Australia came together with a shared conviction: that every child deserves access to quality early learning, regardless of their circumstances. They formed Goodstart as a not-for-profit social enterprise, acquiring over 660 former ABC Learning centers and converting them into community-focused centers.

What made Goodstart different from its inception was its structure as a not-for-profit organization designed purely to improve children's lives. Any surplus generated would be reinvested back into center quality, educator development, and programs that help children thrive. This unique model has allowed Goodstart to grow into Australia's largest early learning provider, caring for over 60,000 children across more than 660 centers in every state and territory. Fifteen years later, that founding vision remains at the heart of everything Goodstart does - ensuring Australia's children have the best possible start in life through quality early learning experiences that set the foundation for school and beyond.
