We are the Government Employees Insurance Company, or as you probably know us, GEICO. Our journey began in 1936 when Leo Goodwin Sr. and his wife Lillian Goodwin took a bold step during the Great Depression to establish a new kind of insurance company. Their vision was to offer auto insurance directly to federal government employees and their families, a group they believed would represent a less risky and more financially stable pool of insured individuals. This innovative approach, focusing on specific customer segments, laid the foundation for our growth and success over the decades. From our early days in San Antonio, Texas, we soon relocated to Washington, D.C., in 1937 to be closer to the heart of our target audience. This strategic move allowed us to better serve federal employees and solidify our unique business model.

Over the years, we've expanded our reach and offerings significantly. While our roots are with government employees, we now proudly serve a diverse customer base across all 50 U.S. states and the District of Columbia. Our product portfolio has also grown beyond auto insurance to include coverage for motorcycles, ATVs, RVs, boats, homes, renters, pets, and more. We've always strived to make insurance easy and accessible, which is why we offer policies through various channels, including local agents, over the phone, and online. In 1996, we became a wholly owned subsidiary of Berkshire Hathaway, a move that further strengthened our financial stability and allowed us to continue our mission on an even larger scale. We're committed to providing excellent service and competitive rates, and we're constantly innovating to meet the evolving needs of our more than 17 million policyholders who trust us with over 28 million vehicles. Our dedication to our customers and our innovative spirit are what continue to drive us forward.
