Vice President, Team Manager, Americas CIO Advisory

What makes Gartner Research and Advisory a GREAT fit for you? When you join Gartner, you’ll be part of a team that values intellectual curiosity, objective insights and expert advice while driving organizations to make smarter, faster decisions on their most critical priorities. Through constant learning, discovery and collaboration, you’ll impact Gartner’s clients and deliver must-have research and compelling interactions.

At Gartner, we get better, faster, stronger, every year through operational excellence and continuous innovation. If you’re excited by what’s next in business and technology, Gartner is looking for you.

About this role and what you bring it:

As the Vice President, TM, you will lead a high performing and diverse team of advisors within Gartner’s CIO & Industries Practice. Your team brings Gartner's insights, best practices, and tools to life for CIOs and their leadership teams across a broad range of world class clients. Your team inspires and motivates clients by helping them understand the “why behind the what” and partnering with them to accomplish their priorities.

You are a connector manager – you know when to dive deep and coach, and you know when to elevate and connect. You find ways of supporting each team member while carving out time to think and act strategically.

You have an entrepreneurial mindset, you embody a culture of continuous improvement, and you inspire your extended teams to do so. You are a world-class team player. You thrive in a culture of continuous feedback and you love to learn. Knowledge inspires you. You are effective in collaborating and building relationships in a remote working environment.

You exemplify leading through influence. You will lead initiatives that go beyond your team’s direct span of influence – such as monthly Voice of CIO deliverables. You will constantly work with your direct and extended teams to identify patterns in what clients ask Gartner through inquiries, workshops, etc and find ways of standardizing on our end while contextualizing for clients.

You are a guardian of quality – you have a track record of upholding yourself and your teams to highest standards of quality. When there are time, budget, and resource constraints, you never sacrifice quality.

You embody relentless execution – you bring a strong project management skillset with you that helps you and your team meet and exceed deadlines without resulting in burnout or loss of morale.

You are an active listener, your team trusts you, and you inspire your team. But you are also a strategic thinker – you have ideas for how to improve processes for your team and clients, and you are not afraid to roll up your own sleeves to try new ways of doing things. When you experiment, you do so thoughtfully to minimize risk of failure and maximize learning.

You break silos to build networks that allow your team to deliver to their highest potential. You balance strategic thinking with day-to-day realities of managing. Your team interfaces with CIOs and their leadership teams to foster deep, broad relationships and help them elevate, and in doing so, you sense patterns among client needs to guide the research agenda and event calendar. As advisors, your team also supports revenue partners in commercial engagements.

You cultivate a culture of learning for your team. Your team and you represent the best of CIO insights to Gartner clients. You help your team stay on top of Gartner research and bring it to life for CIOs and their teams.

You and your team support Sales and Service at Gartner to strategically increase client engagement and ensure each client is applying Gartner's best resources to their work. As such, you also support client retention and growth opportunities and projects.

What you’ll do:

  • Directly oversee a team of CIO advisors in the Americas. Advisors apply expansive knowledge of Gartner research to help resolve high-value business problems for clients through 1:1 interaction, workshops, small group forums, and large stage presentations. They engage senior-level executives by building relationships, establishing credibility, conducting substantive content discussions, diagnosing needs, solving problems, and identifying relevant resources.
  • Develop new ideas and shape content and/or inquiry capacity to solve client challenges and drive retention.
  • Partner with sales and service delivery partners to increase account growth, retention, and engagement.
  • Drive retention and serve as a talent and performance advisor through coaching, performance feedback, development, career pathing and recruitment as necessary.
  • Effectively lead teams through established processes and key performance metrics while driving Gartner’s goal to continuously improve by presenting innovative ideas.
  • Foster an inclusive and engaging environment and drive Gartner’s commitment to DE&I throughout all aspects of the business: hiring practices, associate development, client service and community support.

What you’ll need:

  • 12+ years of experience working in a research or advisory related role (preferred) – MBA and/or management consulting experience a plus, experience working with CIOs and technology leaders of large global organizations is a plus
  • Experience managing, developing, and growing a high-performing team in a large enterprise organization;
  • Track record of success inspiring and engaging team members in a virtual environment
  • Demonstrated success leading a multinational hybrid team
  • Ability to coordinate multiple ongoing engagements and prioritize the most critical demands
  • Advanced analytical skills and the ability to apply a data driven approach to decision making
  • A consultative skillset
  • Demonstrated entrepreneurial and growth mindset
  • Ability to coach associates (and managers) to diagnose and root cause performance to maximize team outcomes
  • Demonstrated influencing, negotiation, and facilitation skills
  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience; Graduate degree preferred

Who you are:

  • Excellent collaborator that will excel in a fast-paced environment and ensure your multinational team of managers and individual contributors have detailed agendas for all relevant topic areas
  • Authentic leadership and business acumen to inform appropriate investment decisions on teams’ behalf
  • Proven team leader with the ability to drive, direct, and ensure on-time and high-quality fulfillment of each relevant research & advisory product
  • Results-driven professional who establishes credibility and builds trust-based relationships with stakeholders
  • Analytical thinker with the ability to process information and make actionable recommendations or pivot as necessary
  • Disciplined leader that prioritizes the team’s capacity to support the business’ most critical activities
