What you'll be doing…

The Rights Team is a central operations team working alongside the Legal Team, based in Bath but working for all of Future’s global offices. The role of a Rights Manager is to ensure content used across the business is cleared for use in the way Future brands, platforms, and licensing partner’s require.

The role also involves advising, informing, and training editorial teams around the business to ensure standard procedures are followed.

Key Responsibilities:

Contracts

  • Assist with the sending out of contributor contracts and ensuring each contributor is allocated the correct type of contract for their work type/commission type.
  • Assisting with resolving contract issues (working with relevant teams where required) and issuing amended documents when necessary
  • Sending out monthly contract chasers using the Rights Dashboard and updating monthly stats for the business.

Training

  • Run/assist with monthly training sessions for all relevant internal staff, including new starters, using Zoom webinars and a live chat/Q&A feature.
  • Keep the training sheet up to date with live/online training completion, rights quiz completion, new starters, and leavers.

Music

  • Renew annual PPL license to play music in the workplace. This involves auditing the offices owned/occupied by the business to establish no. of employees listening to music out loud.
  • Renew annual LOML/ASCAP licenses for any of our websites that require a license to play copyrighted music hosted on their sites - currently GuitarWorld, LouderSound, and MusicRadar.
  • Renew Annual PRS IPC Licence for Future Studios - this covers us for music contained within our TV productions.

General

  • Assisting the Head of Rights with projects and tasks where required including acquisition migration tasks if applicable
  • Assisting with general queries in Rights inbox and via Rights Slack channel.
  • Ensure the Rights Wiki site is kept up to date in terms of information and branding.

Experience that will put you ahead of the curve…

  • Ability to manage workflow successfully across a portfolio of media brands
  • Have an understanding of copyright law and feel confident enough to answer general rights queries
  • Ability to work efficiently under pressure to tight deadlines.
  • Excellent self-discipline, communication, organisational, and time management skills.
  • Ability to cover the basics of roles of other team members during holidays/sickness.
