About Fundraise Up
We’re Fundraise Up - a global fundraising platform built to make donating to nonprofits fast, seamless, and accessible to all. Every month, our technology powers tens of millions of dollars in donations across the globe. We focus on innovation that directly impacts results: faster load times, higher conversion rates, global payment support, and accessibility-first design.
Our platform is trusted by many of the world’s leading nonprofits, including UNICEF, the Alzheimer’s Association, and a wide range of global NGOs. With a 4.9/5 rating across top software review platforms, we’re recognized not just for our impact - but for the quality of the product we deliver.
A Truly Global Product
We operate in the enterprise segment, serving nonprofit organizations across North America, the United Kingdom, Australia, and Europe.
We’re building a large and complex product ecosystem that serves nonprofits, donors, and partners around the world. The platform includes a modern checkout experience and customizable widgets (each a standalone SPA), donor, organization, and partner portals, admin tools, and several internal apps.
Our backend is powered by Node.js (Koa, NestJS) and MongoDB. The frontend stack includes Webpack, Vue.js, and React, with nearly all code written in TypeScript. For high-throughput messaging and background processing, we use Kafka (for millions of events) and Bull (Redis). Analytics data is stored in ClickHouse, and we use Elasticsearch for search.
Our Infrastructure
We currently run on 130+ physical servers (leased from various providers) across multiple data centers. Everything is connected via a Wireguard-based mesh network. While we use cloud services like S3, SES, and Lambda, we have no plans to fully migrate to AWS or GCP.
- Fronted by Cloudflare (extensive use of its services)
- CI/CD handled by Jenkins deploying Node.js apps in Docker
- Rolling out Kubernetes on our bare-metal setup
- Data storage: MongoDB and ClickHouse
- Communication between services: Redis (Bull) and Kafka
- We self-host many tools: Sentry, PostHog, Cal.com, Tableau, Jupyter, Airflow
Stack Tools
Linux, Ansible, HAProxy, Jenkins, Git, Bash, Python, VictoriaMetrics, Graylog, Grafana, Wireguard mesh network, Sentry and more.
The Team
We are a distributed team of 120+ product professionals, including 35+ engineers. Our team members are mainly based across Spain, Poland, Portugal, Georgia, Armenia, Serbia, Turkey, and Cyprus. Many of our developers bring 5 - 10+ years of experience, and we foster a culture of deep technical curiosity and knowledge sharing.
Despite our scale, we operate like a focused team - where every task matters and every voice is heard. We value thoughtful collaboration, strong engineering practices, and a product mindset. Biweekly engineering forums give space to share learnings and celebrate technical achievements. You’ll be joining a team where quality, mentorship, and mutual respect come first.
About the Role
We are looking for an experienced Senior DevOps Engineer / SRE with 5+ years in the industry. You will join a small but highly skilled team responsible for the stability, performance, and security of our server infrastructure, including databases and messaging queues.
You won’t be siloed into a single area — we believe in engineers who can dive into any problem that falls under our team’s responsibility. Even short downtimes are extremely costly for our business — five years ago, 10 minutes of downtime cost us $100,000, and that number is significantly higher today.
What You’ll Do
Manage and support on-premise infrastructure (VMs and bare-metal) at the OS and lower levels — configuration, maintenance, and troubleshooting.
Work deeply with Linux systems (we use Ubuntu), including using Linux Crisis Tools to resolve issues at the server level.
Use Ansible for configuration management.
Script in Bash or Python to automate repetitive tasks and build exporters for monitoring.
Set up and support infrastructure-level security, including Full Disk Encryption (FDE) using Clevis + Tang.
Troubleshoot complex issues involving servers, networks, and databases.
Take ownership and responsibility — this is critical given the cost of downtime.
Requirements
5+ years of experience working in DevOps roles or infrastructure teams.
Desire and experience working with on-premise infrastructure.
Proficient in working with Linux servers (Ubuntu), at the OS and system tools level.
Experience with Ansible and Git.
Strong scripting skills in Bash or Python.
Understanding of basic network architecture, including firewall configuration (iptables).
High attention to detail and a strong sense of responsibility.
Nice to Have (you should have experience with at least 2+ of these areas)
ClickHouse / MongoDB: understanding use cases, performance tuning, monitoring, query optimization, sharding.
Kafka: hands-on cluster management (topic migration, broker replacement, parameter tuning).
Redis: setup and optimization in high-load systems (replication, sharding, performance monitoring).
Elasticsearch: configuration, sharding, cluster management.
HAProxy / Nginx: load balancing, SSL/TLS, caching, proxy setup, performance tuning.
OS Tuning: optimizing kernel parameters, network stack, and file systems for high-load environments.
FDE on LVM: experience with full disk encryption, ideally using Clevis + Tang.
Infrastructure Security: experience with Teleport and HashiCorp Vault.
Bonus points
VictoriaMetrics: configuration and how it differs from Prometheus.
Complex CI/CD pipelines, especially scripted Jenkins pipelines.
Kubernetes on bare-metal: setup, server and network configuration, MetalLB, external access restrictions, autoscaling across providers like OVH and Hetzner, and integration with existing infrastructure.
