What started as a passionate project in 2009 has evolved into the leading fishing academy in the German-speaking world. Founder Hubertus Massong initially launched Fishing-King as a provider of local, in-person preparatory courses for the state fishing examination in Cologne. Recognizing the limitations of rigid classroom schedules, Massong saw an opportunity to revolutionize the traditional path to becoming an angler through digitalization.

In 2015, the company achieved a major breakthrough by launching the first officially recognized online fishing course in North Rhine-Westphalia. This innovation allowed aspiring anglers to prepare for their exams flexibly, anytime and anywhere, using high-quality video tutorials and interactive learning tools. The concept proved immensely popular, leading to rapid expansion across almost all German federal states and into Austria. Today, Fishing-King has successfully trained over 100,000 new anglers, cementing its status as the market leader in digital fishing education.

Beyond the core licensing courses, the company has broadened its mission to include advanced angling training through its 'University' and a strong commitment to sustainability with the 'Fishing-King Cares' initiative. In 2022, the company partnered with Afinum Management to further professionalize its operations and accelerate growth, continuing its journey to make the hobby of fishing accessible to everyone while promoting responsible nature conservation.
