F&G is hiring for a Director, Tax - Investments. This is responsible for leading the evaluation and documentation of the appropriate Tax treatment of new investments, identifying tax risks/costs and reviewing applicable documents as well as tax operational onboarding of such new investments. This position will also be responsible for understanding and documenting accounting treatments as part of initial investment evaluation. This position will play a significant role in the Company’s ability to expeditiously act on new investment opportunities. This position will oversee tax analysis related to Company’s various derivative initiatives. The successful candidate will work with the AVP, Tax in providing timely analysis and documentation with regard to various tax research projects.

This position reports to the AVP, Tax. This individual will be a subject matter expert and manage this function with no direct reports.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Lead the tax technical analysis on specific new investments that will support and inform the company’s evaluation and of the investment that will include reviewing new investment structures and quantifying and identifying tax risks/costs related to new investments. Analysis will include evaluating the structing of the agreements and determining how tax fits into the structure.
  • Serve as a tax technical subject matter expert and leads tax analysis, including quantification and documentation, of Company’s other initiatives, such as: various derivatives products, cross-currency transactions and others.
  • Lead the completion of tax research memos documenting the tax conclusions, including documenting the understanding of accounting treatment for agreements and structures.
  • Collaborate with AVP, Investment Taxation and other functional areas (e.g., Investment Accounting, Middle Office, Legal, Financial Reporting, Financial Advisory) to perform operational onboarding of new investments
  • Participate in the risk assessment process partnering with a cross functional team across the organization. Identifies the tax implications and risks to the organization. Evaluates the costs associated with those risks and explores ways to avoid the risks and costs.
  • Lead the tax technical analysis on the transactions related to the existing portfolios, including but not limited to derivatives, structured bonds, limited partnerships, hedging, swaps, LITHC, mortgages and alternative investments.
  • Research, analyze, quantify and document tax implications of Company’s material tax positions as well as provide research support for the tax department.

Experience and Education Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting
  • CPA required
  • Minimum of 8 years of tax experience required with 2 years in a corporate tax department
  • Minimum of 3 years investment-related tax experience
  • International experience a plus

Other Requirements

  • Perform other functions, duties and projects as assigned
  • Regular and punctual attendance
  • Some travel may be required (less than 10%)
