What You'll Do:

This role will support feature development while driving visual design to ensure elegant, easy to use experiences for consumers, merchants and internal users. As a product designer you will also lead stakeholders and product partners with your visual design expertise, user experience guidance, and user research to deliver high-fidelity, production ready design solutions on time in a fast-paced startup environment.

  • Drive/Enhance/Support Visual Design: Create polished, dev-ready Figma design deliverables for end-to-end experiences that demonstrate all requirements for a defined workflow while seeking to enhance the user experience at every touchpoint.
  • Own Feature Outcomes: Take ownership of assigned product features and user flows, translating high-level requirements into intuitive, functional visual design deliverables (wireframes, designs, and prototypes) in Figma, leveraging our design system.
  • Collaborative Execution: Partner closely with Product Managers, Engineering and stakeholders to deliver persona-first, data-driven solutions while you navigate technical constraints and business goals in a fast-paced startup environment.
  • Design with Data: Leverage user research, analytics, and feedback to iterate on designs and advocate for the best user experience for each feature and flow.
  • Accelerate with AI: Leverage modern AI-assisted tools (e.g., Figma Make, Claude, or research synthesis tools) to automate repetitive tasks and rapidly prototype high-fidelity explorations.
  • Contribute to the Design System: Actively use and contribute to the Extend Design System, ensuring your work is scalable and maintains visual consistency and design excellence across the platform.
  • Refine the Craft: Participate in design reviews and critiques, providing constructive feedback to peers and helping to elevate the team’s overall output and design excellence.

What We're Looking For:

  • Experience: 3+ years of professional experience in product design, with a portfolio showcasing shipped work in consumer or B2B software.
  • Education: Bachelor’s degree in Design, HCI, CS, or a related field—or equivalent professional experience showing a strong grasp of design fundamentals and user-centered methodology.
  • Core Competency: We need a designer who delivers more than just wireframes. You should have a portfolio that demonstrates high-fidelity mastery—specifically in typography, grid systems, and layout. You can translate complex requirements into polished, production-ready Figma files that are as aesthetically "finished" as they are functional.
  • Systems Thinking: The ability to work within an established design system while identifying opportunities to improve or expand components for the team.
  • Communication: A clear communicator who can explain the "why" behind design decisions and collaborate effectively with cross-functional partners.
  • Figma Mastery: Advanced expertise in Figma (auto-layout, components, variables) to maintain visual consistency and build high-fidelity prototypes that feel like the real product.
  • Technical Literacy: A solid understanding of how designs are implemented in code (HTML/CSS/React basics) to ensure feasible handoffs.

Nice-To-Haves:

  • Retail & E-commerce Fluency: Prior experience designing for merchant dashboards, checkout flows, or post-purchase experiences.
  • Design System Contribution: Experience managing or evolving a shared component library in Figma (e.g., documenting guidelines or building complex variants).

Fintech Curiosity: An understanding of the complexities of financial transactions, fraud prevention, or insurance tech.

Expected Pay Range: $111,000 - $129,000 per year salaried*

* The target base salary range for this position is listed above. Individual salaries are determined based on a number of factors including, but not limited to, job-related knowledge, skills and experience.

  • Stock in an early-stage startup growing quickly.
  • Generous, flexible paid time off policy.
  • 401(k) with Financial Guidance from Morgan Stanley.

Extend was founded in 2023 by Eli Badgio and Kushal Byatnal, former engineers at Brex and Stir, who recognized that document processing was a persistent bottleneck for modern enterprises. While traditional OCR solutions plateaued at around 80% accuracy and required months of complex integration, the founders envisioned a platform that could leverage the power of Large Language Models (LLMs) to achieve near-perfect results. What started as a mission to 'transform how the world works with unstructured data' has evolved into the 'Modern Document Processing Cloud,' a comprehensive platform that unifies parsing, extraction, and orchestration.

Today, Extend empowers technical teams to build mission-critical document pipelines with greater than 95% accuracy out of the box. By combining state-of-the-art vision models with a developer-first API, the company has become the 'Stripe for documents,' trusted by industry leaders like Brex, Chime, and Flatiron Health to handle their most complex workflows. With $17 million in recent funding from Innovation Endeavors and Y Combinator, Extend is rapidly scaling its engineering team in New York City to further revolutionize how businesses unlock the value of their data.
