About Equality Florida

Equality Florida is the largest civil rights organization dedicated to securing full equality for Florida's lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, and queer (LGBTQ) community. Founded in 1997, we're changing Florida through lobbying, grassroots organizing, education, and coalition building - so that no one suffers harassment or discrimination on the basis of their sexual orientation or gender identity or expression.

Our key areas of work include public policy and community organizing, where we maintain the only LGBTQ organization with a full-time presence in the State Capitol. We also run the Safe and Healthy Schools Program, working with Florida's 67 school districts to implement comprehensive best practices supporting LGBTQ students. Our Transgender Equality initiatives provide diversity training, advocacy, and resources, while our HIV Advocacy and Education program aims to curb new transmissions through statewide public education campaigns. We champion reproductive rights as a founding partner of Floridians Protecting Freedom, and our Equality Means Business initiative highlights pro-equality businesses committed to inclusive workplaces.

Since our founding, we've grown into one of the largest statewide LGBTQ groups in the country with more than 400,000 supporters and 15,000 volunteers, with staff located in major Florida cities. We've helped secure marriage equality, overturn Florida's ban on gay and lesbian adoption, and continue fighting back against discriminatory legislation at the local, state, and federal levels.
