Purpose of the Job

The Strategic Engagement Manager – AI Solutions is a key role in driving the adoption of Elsevier AI Solutions top-down. This role focuses on major opportunities with national governments, international organizations, and large or strategic academic and research institutions.

This position covers all AI solutions in Elsevier’s Academic and Government portfolio, including LeapSpace, AI in Life Sciences and Engineering, AI in software and workflow solutions, as well as future AI developments. This role will act on behalf of Elsevier’s AI offerings to position Elsevier as a trusted partner and leader in responsible, transparent AI for research.

During the sales process, the role partners with our Account Managers to bring deeper strategic and technical capabilities to strategic and technical expertise to sales that involve AI. The role also drives large-scale adoption of Elsevier AI by providing thought leadership and influencing policy and standards. After a sale, while the Customer Success Manager (CSM) leads the post-sale process, the Strategic Engagement Manager supports customer satisfaction, continues engagement, and seeks to grow the commercial relationship by deepening advisory and strategic partnerships.

Key Result Areas / Primary Accountabilities

  • Proactively cultivate adoption of Elsevier AI solutions at national and consortia level “control points” over long-term sustained engagements

  • Develop large-scale, strategic A&G deals on behalf of Elsevier’s full AI portfolio, including LeapSpace, ReaxysAI, ScopusAI, Engineering AI, and upcoming AI workflow solutions.

  • Partner with Account Managers during sales as the AI technical expert: deliver tailored demos and localized outcomes-driven use cases; build customized solution proposals that integrate AI solutions with the broader A&G Solutions portfolio; own the AI-related technical and methodological components in RFPs/tenders; and address AI governance, transparency, compliance, and ethics.

  • Post-sale, provide the framework and critical success factors for ongoing and increasing customer value over time, and provide ongoing advisory support to grow relationships with large-scale accounts, helping customers expand their use of Elsevier AI solutions.

  • Advise the global business on regional and worldwide market trends in academic and research AI, competitor activities, and strategic priorities for continued growth in large-scale global sales opportunities.

  • Bring broad expertise including deep knowledge of Academic & Government markets, strong technical acumen, excellent sales and communication skills, and the ability to manage complex, consultative projects over time.

Qualifications – (education, competencies, skills, experience)

  • Advanced degree (Master’s or Doctorate) in science or business preferred.

  • 3–5 years of experience in AI/ML solution consulting, research workflow technologies, or complex SaaS pre-sales, ideally in academic or government markets.

  • Knowledge of AI applications in research discovery, knowledge management, analytics, or higher education.

  • Have the ability to translate customer needs into deliverable commercial solutions.

  • Experience engaging senior institutional leaders, government/national bodies, and technical stakeholders.

  • Excellent communication, networking, and presentation skills, especially when explaining AI concepts to non-technical audiences.

  • Familiarity with research administration, academic workflows, funding processes, or scholarly communication is a plus.

  • Experience in a matrixed, international environment.

  • Highly self-driven, consultative, with strong sales execution abilities.

Primary Location Base Pay Range: Home based-New Jersey $108,339 - $173,061. Total Target Cash Range: $167,090 - $266,910. Pay mix between base and variable pay varies based on sales role; please discuss with the recruiter.U.S. National Base Pay Range: $89,700 - $166,400, Total Target Cash Range: $138,000 - $256,000. Geographic differentials may apply in some locations to better reflect local market rates.Pay mix between base and variable pay varies based on sales role; please discuss with the recruiter.
