Job Description

Location: Aztec West, Bristol (hybrid working)

Are you ready to take your project controls career to the next level? We are seeking an experienced and driven individual to join our team as Deputy Head of Project Controls for the Hinkley Point C (HPC) project.

The Opportunity

EDF EPR Engineering UK (EPR-E) is a subsidiary of Edvance, which is a joint venture between EDF and Framatome, established in 2018 in charge of the design and the realisation of nuclear islands for new projects in France and worldwide.

In particular, EDF EPR Engineering UK is responsible for the design and construction of the nuclear island for Hinkley Point C (HPC) project and preparing the design replication and engineering activities for the Sizewell C (SZC) Project.

At HPC we are building two new nuclear reactors, the first in a new generation of nuclear power stations in the UK providing low carbon electricity for around six million homes.

For the SZC Project, work on the replication strategy and some early design studies are already underway and being delivered and managed from both France and UK.

Pay, benefits and culture

Alongside a salary between £70,00 - £80,000 (negotiable depending on experience), bonus and a market-leading pension scheme, your package will include a range of benefits, from the big and formal to the small and personal.

We’re talking about everything from enhanced parental leave to electric vehicle leasing, health insurance to product discounts, critical illness insurance to technology vouchers, gym membership to season ticket loans.

At EDF UK, we embrace flexibility while recognising that everyone's working needs are different. Whether you're in our office spaces, on site, or working remotely, we promote an environment that supports collaboration, connection, and comfort. No matter where you are, our priority is to make sure you feel safe, valued, and celebrated.

Here, we do right by each other and everyone’s welcome. We’re on an action-oriented journey, championing equity, diversity, and inclusion. We’d like our future workforce to have an equal gender balance, represent a broad mix of people from minority ethnic backgrounds, LGBTQ+, those with a disability and supporting social mobility.

We’re a disability confident employer and we’ll do all we can to help with your application. Please let us know if you need to request reasonable adjustments.

We take pride in fostering a dynamic and inclusive environment, where the diverse backgrounds and experiences of our employees drive fresh thinking and innovation. We understand that success means different things to different people. We believe there are multiple definitions of what it means to succeed. That’s why we support you to pursue a career that’s unique to you. Because success is personal.

What you’ll be doing

As Deputy Head of Project Controls, you will play a critical leadership role in supporting and overseeing the strategic direction of project controls for HPC. Acting as the right hand to the Head of Project Controls, you’ll step into their shoes when required, while taking ownership of vital financial, organisational, and performance aspects of the project.

You will lead key financial planning exercises, manage core project controls across the Nuclear Island (NI), and drive forward continuous improvement and productivity initiatives in partnership with both UK and French teams. Your role will span technical project oversight and people leadership—building alignment with stakeholders, shaping team objectives, and guiding internal communication to ensure seamless project delivery.

This position requires a confident leader who can bring teams together, communicate effectively across international boundaries, and apply sharp analytical and organisational skills to a complex and exciting engineering environment.

Who you are

We’re looking for someone with strong experience in project controls or project management, ideally within a major infrastructure or energy project. You’ll be fluent in English, confident working with cross-functional teams, and capable of leading transversal initiatives and managing high-level financial exercises from start to finish.

An understanding of nuclear or similarly complex engineering projects is highly advantageous. If you bring certifications such as PMP, PRINCE2, or equivalent, that’s a definite plus. French language skills would also be a welcome bonus given our international collaboration with France.
