The Opportunity

At Hinkley Point C (HPC) we are building two new nuclear reactors, the first in a new generation of nuclear power stations in the UK providing low carbon electricity for around six million homes.

We are looking for an Operational Development Engineer within the Operations Procedures Team, in the Operations Department at HPC.

As an Operational Development Engineer, you’ll have the exciting opportunity to play a crucial role in preparing the site for the world-class performance of the next generation of pressurised water reactors in the UK.

Depending on your experience, your role will involve authoring, updating and reviewing operations procedures and documents, including understanding the links with safety case requirements, Technical Specifications and relevant nuclear site licence conditions. You will work with Main Control Room operators to validate our operations procedures, using our full scope simulator. You will analyse Design Changes to understand their impact on various documents.

You will be part of a diverse and dedicated team helping to shape future operations at HPC.

What You’ll Be Doing

As an Operational Development Engineer, you’ll play a vital role in ensuring the seamless transition of our facilities from construction to operation. You will understand the many inputs into our operations documents and ensure that our procedures comply with requirements coming from the safety case, Technical Specifications, Design Changes, Human Factors, nuclear site licence conditions and end user feedback.

You will build relationships with different stakeholders to work through technical queries and analyse the impact of Design Changes on our operations documents. You will author, review and update various procedures – these could relate to Normal Operations, Fault Operations, Severe Accident operations or Technical Specifications depending on your skills and experience.

Once HPC is operational, you will have further opportunities in support of safe, reliable operations either still within the Operations Procedures Team or in a different operational role. Experience gained as an Operational Development Engineer will fully support further development and opportunities within the operational organisation.

Who You Are

You are a proactive, analytical thinker with strong interpersonal and communication skills. You have experience of developing and reviewing technical information. You strive for continuous learning and improvement.

You hold an HNC or equivalent in a relevant technical field.

You ideally have experience relating to authoring, updating and reviewing operations documents, procedures and/or Technical Specifications in the nuclear industry.
