Position Summary

We are seeking a Technical Accounting Manager, Financial Reporting to join our growing finance team. This individual will play a central role in public company readiness and establishing SEC reporting, with initial focus on financial statement quarterization, inaugural quarterly financial reporting in Workiva, and progressing directly into S-1 drafting, while we uplift prior-year audits to PCAOB standards. On an ongoing basis, this individual will prepare all technical accounting and SEC reporting deliverables. This is a highly visible, individual-contributor role that requires a systems thinker who can design scalable financial reporting processes and operate comfortably in a fast-paced, pre-IPO environment. The Technical Accounting Manager will work cross-functionally with leaders across Finance, Legal, and Operations, providing technical guidance on complex accounting issues, contributing to strategic decisions, and shaping our financial story. This role is ideal for someone with a strong technical background who wants to advise on complex, high-impact matters that directly influence corporate strategy, while building a career path toward senior leadership.

This position is remote within the US. The US base salary range for this position is $135,000 - $165,000 + equity + benefits. Our salary ranges are determined by role, level, and location.

What You’ll Do

  • Lead public company readiness initiatives, including quarterization, SEC reporting dry runs, and preparation for ongoing 10-Q, 10-K, and 8-K filings, including financial statements and related disclosures. Includes supporting SOX scoping and readiness.
  • Research and document complex accounting issues in technical memoranda, ensuring compliance with US GAAP. Own documentation and create processes across several areas, including debt, equity, revenue recognition, leases, business combinations, goodwill impairment, segment reporting, earnings per share, consolidation, foreign currency, and carve-out accounting.
  • Lead the financial statement audit process, including uplifting to PCAOB standards. Managing requests and communications with external auditors.
  • Continuously improve reporting architecture, data flows, and automation leveraging AI-enabled workflows.
  • Serve as the primary owner of Workiva from a reporting and execution perspective (implementation will be completed prior to start).
  • Partner cross-functionally with Finance leadership and other departments to provide technical accounting guidance for new products, partnerships, and business initiatives.
  • Support the M&A team in financial due diligence and integration.
  • Coordinate with our tax provider on tax matters.

What We’re Looking For

  • 5+ years of relevant accounting experience, with a blend of at least 2 years in public accounting (Big 4 or national firm strongly preferred) and industry, preferably in a high-growth environment in tech, fintech, financial services, or related verticals.
  • Demonstrated hands-on experience drafting full financial statements and footnotes for SEC filings (10-Q, 10-K, 8-K); candidates coming directly from audit without direct SEC reporting experience will not be a fit.
  • Strong technical knowledge of US GAAP, with demonstrated experience in drafting accounting memos and preparing financial statements.
  • Experience in areas such as debt, equity, revenue recognition, leases, income taxes, intercompany transactions, consolidation, FX matters, and carve-out accounting.
  • Familiarity with public company readiness, including SOX and internal controls, is preferred.
  • Experience determining the accounting treatment for complex, novel products.
  • Experience with Workiva financial reporting is strongly preferred. Experience with NetSuite is a plus.
  • CPA license or Master’s degree in Accounting/Finance strongly preferred.
  • Experience leveraging AI and technology to streamline key business processes is a plus.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to translate complex accounting issues into clear, actionable guidance. Detail-oriented, highly organized, and comfortable working in a fast-paced, dynamic environment.

EarnIn, formerly known as Activehours, is a financial technology company founded in 2013 by Ram Palaniappan. The company's mission is to build a more equitable financial system by providing individuals with access to their earned wages before their scheduled payday. This concept, often referred to as Earned Wage Access (EWA), aims to help people manage their finances, avoid overdraft fees, and reduce reliance on high-cost predatory lending products. EarnIn's core product, 'Cash Out', allows users to withdraw a portion of their earned income as they earn it. The service is community-supported, with users having the option to leave a voluntary 'tip' for the service, rather than facing mandatory fees or interest charges.

Headquartered in Palo Alto, California, EarnIn has grown significantly since its inception, facilitating billions of dollars in earned wage access for its members. The company emphasizes its commitment to financial wellness by offering additional tools such as 'Balance Shield', which provides low-balance alerts, and 'Tip Yourself', a feature designed to encourage savings. EarnIn's services are available directly to consumers through its mobile application and also as an employee benefit offered through partnerships with employers across various industries. The company has highlighted its role in helping users save on overdraft fees and manage unexpected expenses. While the 'tipping' model has faced some scrutiny and comparisons to payday lending, EarnIn maintains that its approach is designed to offer a more flexible and affordable financial solution. The company has also expanded its offerings to include services like negotiating medical bills for its users. EarnIn has garnered numerous users and positive app reviews, positioning itself as a key player in the evolving landscape of financial technology and employee financial wellness.
