We are seeking a highly skilled and strategic Director of Total Rewards to lead our compensation, executive compensation, benefits, and wellness programs function. This is a critical and important role reporting directly to the Chief People Officer at D2L and accountable for maturing our compensation framework.

The Director Total Rewards oversees the global development, implementation, and maintenance of D2L's compensation and benefits programs. Key components of this role include the preparation of job descriptions, conducting job evaluations and salary surveys, establishing salary structures, developing salary budgets, and preparing policies and procedures to ensure the achievement of equitable and competitive employee compensation. This will also include stock option and bonus plan design and administration. As an expert in this area, you'll also monitor and evaluate D2L's benefits programs including insurance programs, retirement plans, sick leave, time off and vacation policies, while ensuring these programs are current regarding trends, practices, and costs. The Director of Total Rewards will also coordinate vendor management, wellness, and health education initiatives, and negotiate coverage services and costs with carriers. You will also bring experience in Executive Compensation, while having built out a Compensation Philosophy in your previous roles.

Major Responsibilities (How Will I Make an Impact?):

Compensation Philosophy Strategy:

  • Develop and implement a comprehensive global compensation strategy that supports organizational goals and attracts top talent and is fit for purpose based on the size and maturity of our current organizational structure
  • Conduct market analysis and benchmarking to ensure competitive and equitable compensation practices.

Executive Compensation:

  • Strategically design and manage executive compensation programs to attract, motivate, and retain key leadership talent.
  • Ensure executive compensation practices comply with applicable regulations and align with business performance.

Benefits Management:

  • Oversee the design, implementation, and administration of a competitive and innovative global benefits program. Understand and support where and when benefits need to be nuanced to support different geographies.
  • Collaborate with vendors to optimize benefit offerings and ensure cost-effectiveness.

Wellness Programs:

  • Develop and implement holistic wellness programs to enhance employee well-being and engagement.
  • Measure the effectiveness of wellness initiatives and make data-driven adjustments to improve overall employee health.

Global Program Standardization:

  • Standardize total rewards programs across global locations, taking into account regional variations and compliance requirements.
  • Ensure consistency and fairness in compensation and benefits practices worldwide.

Communication and Education:

  • Develop communication strategies to effectively convey the value of total rewards programs to employees.
  • Provide education and training to HR teams and managers on compensation, benefits, and wellness matters.

Compliance and Governance:

  • Stay current on global compensation and benefits regulations and ensure compliance across all locations.
  • Collaborate with legal and finance teams to ensure governance and regulatory adherence in executive compensation.

Data Analysis and Reporting:

  • Utilize HR analytics to assess the effectiveness of total rewards programs and provide insights to leadership.
  • Prepare regular reports for executive management on compensation, benefits, and wellness metrics.

Mergers and Acquisitions:

  • Provide expertise and support in due diligence processes for mergers and acquisitions.

Lead integration efforts for total rewards programs during company acquisitions.

  • Familiarity with SaaS-based industries or Educational Technology is a plus.
  • Proven experience in managing total rewards programs in a global context.

Skills and Recommended Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, or related field; Master’s degree or relevant certifications (e.g., CCP, CBP) preferred.
  • Progressive experience in total rewards, compensation, and benefits management, with a focus on global programs

The expected base salary range for a new hire in this role is listed below. The annualized base salary offered is determined by each candidate’s relevant knowledge, skills, education, training and experience. It is aligned to ensure both internal and external competitiveness using market data for the geographic location and industry. As part of the total compensation at D2L the role may be eligible for additional benefits including a Wellness Subsidy, Equity Grants, Variable Incentive, and more.

Base Salary Range$120,000—$140,000 CAD
