We are seeking a Tech Lead focusing on AI, Modernization & Transformation to drive enterprise-scale transformation of our platforms through Agentic AI, cloud-native architecture, and real-time data processing.
This role combines hands-on engineering excellence with strategic leadership, modernizing legacy systems into scalable, intelligent, cloud native high-performance platforms using Java, Spring Boot, Python and Mongo DB.
The ideal candidate brings deep expertise in distributed systems, real-time processing, and AI-driven engineering, along with strong experience in Test-Driven Development (TDD), reverse engineering, and close collaboration with enterprise architects. A proven track record of applying AI to deliver measurable transformation outcomes is essential.
Experience with EDI and Encounter processing platforms is highly valued, particularly in transforming high-volume, regulated systems into real-time, modern API based architectures.
Key Responsibilities
1. Agentic AI & AI-Driven Transformation
- Lead implementation of Agentic AI systems (autonomous agents, multi-agent orchestration, intelligent workflows)
- Drive adoption of LLMs, RAG pipelines, and AI-assisted engineering practices
- Deliver production-grade AI use cases that improve performance, cost efficiency, or developer productivity
- Integrate AI into the full engineering lifecycle (development, testing, operations)
2. Modernization, Reverse Engineering & Transformation
- Lead modernization of legacy systems using reverse engineering to analyze, decompose, and redesign complex architectures
- Transform monoliths into cloud-native, microservices-based and event-driven systems
- Modernize EDI and Encounter processing platforms into real-time, scalable architecture
- Define and execute multi-year transformation roadmaps in alignment with enterprise strategy
- Apply design thinking to reimagine systems from a business-value and user-outcome perspective
- Partner closely with architects to ensure alignment with enterprise architecture standards and long-term vision.
3. Backend Engineering Excellence (Java, Spring Boot, Python, SQL)
- Lead development of:
- Java / Spring Boot microservices
- Python-based services, automation, and AI pipelines
- SQL-based data processing and analytics solutions
- Design systems for high-volume transaction processing and scalability
- Drive best practices in clean architecture, reusable design patterns, and observability
4. Test-Driven Development & Engineering Discipline
- Champion Test-Driven Development (TDD) across engineering teams
- Establish robust automated testing frameworks:
- Unit testing
- Integration testing
- Performance testing
- Enable quality-first engineering culture with reduced defects and improved release confidence
- Embed testing into CI/CD pipelines for continuous validation
5. Real-Time Data & Distributed Systems
- Design and implement real-time data processing and streaming solutions
- Build systems capable of:
- High throughput
- Low latency
- Event-driven scalability
- Support mission-critical transaction systems (claims, encounters, eligibility, payments)
- Optimize for performance, resiliency, and fault tolerance
6. Cloud & Platform Engineering
- Architect end-to-end cloud-native solutions across:
- Compute, storage, networking
- Security and compliance
- Monitoring and observability
- Drive adoption of:
- Kubernetes, Docker
- CI/CD pipelines
- Infrastructure as Code (IaC)
- Build platforms supporting both transactional and analytical workloads
7. Technical Leadership, Collaboration & Design Thinking
- Partner closely with enterprise and solution architects on architecture decisions and target-state design
- Apply design thinking methodologies to solve complex business and technical challenges
- Lead and mentor engineering teams, driving high standards of execution
- Conduct architecture reviews, design sessions, and code reviews
- Establish reusable frameworks, standards, and engineering best practices

Required Qualifications
- 10+ years of experience in software engineering / architecture
- Strong hands-on expertise in:
- Java (Spring Boot) – required
- Python – required
- SQL, MongoDB and data processing – required
- Experience with:
- Agentic AI frameworks and autonomous systems
- LLMs, RAG pipelines, and production AI solutions
- Experience with:
- Event streaming platforms (Kafka or equivalent)
- Data lakehouse / advanced data engineering platforms
- Proven experience designing real-time, distributed systems
- Strong experience with Test-Driven Development (TDD)
- Demonstrated expertise in reverse engineering and modernization of legacy systems
- Experience working with high-volume transactional systems (EDI, Encounters, claims, or similar)
- Proven collaboration with enterprise architects and design frameworks
- Strong design thinking capability applied to system transformation
- Demonstrated success in leveraging AI for measurable transformation outcomes
- Experience with cloud-native platforms (Azure, AWS, OCI)
- Experience leading engineering teams in transformation initiatives

Compensation Range:
$94,100.00 - $164,800.00CareSource takes into consideration a combination of a candidate’s education, training, and experience as well as the position’s scope and complexity, the discretion and latitude required for the role, and other external and internal data when establishing a salary level. In addition to base compensation, you may qualify for a bonus tied to company and individual performance.
