Canvas is at the forefront of revolutionizing the remodeling, architecture and interior design industry through cutting-edge AI and computer vision technology. With our LiDAR-enabled iPhone or iPad scans, we capture precise 3D representations of homes in minutes, providing interactive models with accurate-to-the-inch measurements. Our proprietary process then turns these scans into highly detailed, editable, as-built files in industry-standard formats. Our technology was featured in Apple's keynote when the iPhone's LiDAR sensor was introduced and now we model millions of square feet each month.

We’re an early-stage startup that is growing and ready to accelerate even further. As a global virtual-first company, our team members are distributed worldwide, with a concentration in the US and Europe.

We are looking for a Backend Engineer to help us build and maintain the internal platform and tooling, supporting business scalability and engineering velocity needs. Reporting to the Platform Team Lead, this role will involve a healthy mix of foundational backend work and DevOps, so it is ideal for someone who likes variety in the type of projects they work on. The role assumes active collaboration with our iOS, Computer Vision, Visualization & Tooling, Web, Infrastructure, and Data engineers, as well as other functions within the company.

Responsibilities:

  • Join our team in building the foundation that powers our business and operations.
  • Build the platform and tools that directly help thousands of architecture, design, and renovation companies save time and grow their business with 3D capture, and will help our team serve them better.
  • Ensure the scalability and reliability of a distributed processing backend that processes a high volume of 3D scans per day.
  • Develop tools that empower our internal operations team to efficiently manage scan data.
  • Help other engineering teams unlock higher development velocity by adopting modern DevOps practices, tools, and technologies
  • Own your projects and use this autonomy to find creative and innovative ways of solving problems and delivering solutions.

Qualifications:

  • It's a joy to communicate with you in both written and spoken English
  • You have a strong background in Python, Django, and Django Rest Framework (or similar)
  • You have experience with databases like PostgreSQL, Redis, MongoDB etc.
  • The test pyramid has no secrets for you and you stress over the testability of the code you write
  • You've built or maintained APIs, using monoliths or micro-services
  • Major cloud platforms like AWS, Google Cloud, Azure etc. are very familiar to you
  • You've worked in teams using Agile development practices, or others like ShapeUp etc.
  • You're comfortable working with infrastructure and are capable of handling DevOps tasks when necessary

Any of these qualifications will make you stand out:

  • You've had experience in writing technical documents and gathering requirements
  • You’re used to setting up or managing CI / CD pipelines with Github, Gitlab etc.
  • You’ve worked on services that used Kafka, RabbitMQ, or similar technologies for asynchronous communication.
  • You've had frontend experience in Javascript, Typescript, jQuery or any modern Javascript framework
