Our story began in 1931 when our founder, Shojiro Ishibashi, established the company in Kurume, Japan, with a profound mission that continues to guide us today: 'Serving Society with Superior Quality.' This philosophy was born from a belief that a business dedicated to benefiting society will inherently find success and prosperity. Anticipating the future of passenger cars and the potential for international business, our founder chose an English translation of his surname, Ishibashi (meaning 'stone bridge'), to create our company name, Bridgestone. This forward-thinking mindset set the stage for our global expansion and our unwavering commitment to excellence. From the very beginning, we focused on building our expertise based on Japanese technology, overcoming many challenges in technology, production, and sales to establish a strong foundation.

This founding principle has propelled us through decades of significant growth. A pivotal moment in our history was the 1988 acquisition of The Firestone Tire & Rubber Company, a respected American corporation with its own rich history. This merger was transformative, creating one of the world's largest tire and rubber companies and establishing a truly global team dedicated to serving customers worldwide with the highest level of quality, service, and technology. Today, we are a global leader, with a presence in over 150 countries, approximately 130,000 teammates worldwide, and a vast network of production facilities and R&D centers. Our Americas headquarters, located in the vibrant city of Nashville, Tennessee, is a testament to our commitment to the communities we call home, bringing together our key business units to foster collaboration and innovation.
