In 1840, eight people came together in a Melbourne pub to form a friendly society dedicated to the health and wellbeing of its members. From these humble beginnings in a community of no more than 3,000 people, Australian Unity grew to become Australia's first wellbeing company. Today, more than 185 years later, the organisation remains true to its founding purpose of positively impacting the wellbeing of Australians.

Australian Unity operates as a social enterprise, reinvesting profits to sustainably deliver products and services that matter most to its members, customers, and the broader community. The company delivers services across health insurance, home care services, wealth management, insurance, retirement communities, and aged care. Through its partnership with Deakin University since 2000, Australian Unity publishes the Australian Unity Wellbeing Index, one of the most credible and enduring studies of wellbeing in Australia, tracking how satisfied people are with their lives across seven key areas.
