High-Level Overview
The Client is an investment and advisory firm focused on private capital markets in West Africa, with deep expertise across energy, infrastructure, and SME growth. The team brings extensive experience in corporate finance, transaction advisory, and investment strategy, with a strong track record supporting mid-market businesses across the region.
Project:
This role relates to their upcoming West Africa Fund, which will invest primarily in Nigeria and Ghana across sectors including clean energy, agribusiness, consumer goods, and tech-enabled services. To strengthen governance, the fund is establishing an Investment Committee and is seeking an Independent Investment Committee Member. The Committee will meet monthly (virtual), with quarterly sessions (virtual) requiring additional preparation and one annual in-person engagement. The expected time commitment is approximately 20–25 days per year.
Role and Responsibilities

Key Deliverables:
- Attend ~12 IC meetings annually (virtual; 1 physical annual meeting may require travel)
- Provide strategic insight, risk identification, and investment evaluation support
- Review and assess investment memos and quarterly portfolio reports
- Participate in final decision-making on investment transactions
- Post-Investment Monitoring Insight
- Contribute approximately 20-25 working days per year including prep and meeting time
Requirements
- Over 10 years in private equity, investment advisory, or corporate finance
- Proven experience making or influencing investment decisions, e.g. presenting to investment committees, participating in credit or deal committees, or holding board roles
- Exit strategy experience
- African business experience required, with a strong preference for exposure to West African markets (e.g. Nigeria, Ghana)
- Experience in or familiarity with emerging markets (e.g. Southeast Asia) is a plus, especially in drawing parallels and offering comparative insight
- Familiarity with mid-sized fund structures (e.g. $75M)
- Understanding of investments between $2M–$10M ticket size
- Sector experience in clean energy, agribusiness, FMCG, tech-enabled businesses (not mandatory but a plus)
- Strong understanding of SME investing and portfolio review processes
- Ability to critically evaluate investment memos and financial reports

Contracting period : 5-year investment period, with flexibility for continuation or replacement during term if needed
Budget : TBD - Compensation expected to be a fixed annual rate (inclusive of prep and meeting time)
