The Curriculum Designer for Spanish-Language Arts (SLA) is tasked with the development, documentation, and implementation of curriculum content specifically designed for Spanish reading instruction targeted at students from Pre-Kindergarten through 5th grade. This role involves collaboration with a diverse team of skilled educators, game designers, artists, animators, engineers, and producers to create engaging, digital, and adaptive learning experiences aimed at enhancing Spanish reading and literacy skills
Responsibilities
- Ensure application of current best-practice approaches in the teaching of Spanish reading and literacy concepts, principles, information and skills content and pedagogy.
- Write clear, detailed, and precise specifications for the development of engaging Spanish learning activities, supports, and scaffolds within a company, district or school
- Work collaboratively in cross-functional teams including game designers, artists, engineers, and producers.
- Learn and adopt Age of Learning best practices for curriculum design, instructional approaches, philosophies, and design methodologies
- Effectively use Age of Learning curriculum planning and design processes (e.g., Curriculum Design Frameworks, etc.), tools (e.g., Microsoft Office, Miro, Smartsheets, etc.), and internal communication norms.
- Review activities for developmental appropriateness and instructional integrity.
- Develop and user-test learning designs, prototypes, and hypotheses based on research, learning science, and experience.
- Use AI tools to streamline work and expand capacity.
- Ensure application of current best-practice approaches in the teaching of Spanish reading and literacy concepts, principles, information and skills content and pedagogy.
Minimum Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree (required) or Master’s degree (preferred) in Education, or other related degree
- 5+ years K-5 classroom teaching experience in an elementary bilingual self-contained classroom
- Experience with detailed Spanish curriculum planning for teachers/classrooms/students, including participation in the implementation and evaluation of the implemented curriculum.
- Experience with designing (or understanding the design of) digital learning experiences and/or game-based learning
- 2+ years Spanish curriculum development experience at an educational technology company or educational publishing company OR 2+ years Spanish curriculum implementation experience as a coach or teacher trainer or curriculum specialist in reading or literacy
- Commitment to research-based practice for Spanish literacy instruction, including deep knowledge of “The Science of Reading” approaches and instructional methodologies.
- Ability to work efficiently in an organized and flexible manner to meet aggressive deadlines, adjust to evolving priorities.
- Exemplary writing skills with an emphasis on clarity, organization, and word precision in both English and Spanish
- Exemplary English and Spanish oral and written communication skills, including the ability to effectively synthesize, summarize, and communicate vast bodies of information with the priorities of the specific audience in mind
- Demonstrated ability to work quickly and independently, and to manage multiple simultaneous projects
- Demonstrated ability to work comfortably and efficiently within contexts of ambiguity and change
- Comfortable with both collaborative work as well as independent work
- Travel: up to 25% to Guadalajara
