Yo-Shiun Cheng
@yo-shiuncheng
Mechanical engineer blending CAE, control, and robotics to design robust systems.
What I'm looking for
I’m a mechanical engineer currently pursuing my Master of Mechanical Engineering at EPFL, with a strong focus on simulation-driven design and mechatronics. I led FSAE chassis design and integration, where I used SOLIDWORKS and COMSOL Multiphysics to cut weight by 10% and boosted torsional stiffness by 13%—while coordinating suspension, powertrain, and cockpit integration across teams.
Alongside engineering leadership, I build control-enabled systems. As an undergraduate researcher in field robotics, I developed ROS-based teleoperation and motion-control strategies for a mobile harvesting robot in dynamic agricultural environments, and I’ve implemented MPC/NMPC for vehicle cruise control and overtaking. I also bring validation depth from an internship at Delta Electronics, performing Abaqus CAE statics/modal/shock/vibration analyses and correlating CAE predictions with experimental data to improve mechanical robustness under vehicle-like loads.
Experience
Work history, roles, and key accomplishments
Mentor – Vehicle Layout
National Taiwan University Racing Team (FSAE)
Aug 2023 - Jul 2024 (11 months)
Mentored junior members on vehicle packaging, chassis integration, and manufacturing workflows. Provided training on structural design, jig fabrication, and production planning to support build execution.
Undergraduate Researcher
National Taiwan University
Jul 2022 - Jun 2024 (1 year 11 months)
Developed motion-control strategies and ROS-based teleoperation modules for a mobile harvesting robot operating in dynamic agricultural environments. Designed robust load-bearing mechanical modules and actuation assemblies with a focus on field durability and mechanism design.
Intern, Traction Inverter
Delta Electronics
Jul 2023 - Aug 2023 (1 month)
Performed statics, modal, shock, and vibration CAE in Abaqus for automotive-scale power electronics and correlated predictions with experimental results. Conducted inverter tear-down, dyno testing, cooling pressure-drop, tensile testing, and NVH measurements to improve mechanical robustness under vehicle-like loads.
Head of Structure Group
National Taiwan University Racing Team (FSAE)
Jul 2022 - Jul 2023 (1 year)
Designed the FSAE tubular space-frame chassis using SOLIDWORKS and COMSOL, reducing weight by 10% and increasing torsional stiffness by 13% over the prior version. Coordinated suspension, powertrain, and cockpit integration and managed structural R&D timelines through design reviews.
Structure & Chassis Member
National Taiwan University Racing Team (FSAE)
Sep 2021 - Jun 2022 (9 months)
Designed suspension brackets, chassis nodes, and load-bearing components using CAD/FEA workflows. Fabricated the frame and structural attachments through welding, grinding, and assembly to gain hands-on production experience.
