@umerkhan5
I build hydrologic models and flood forecasts for climate-sensitive river basins.
What I'm looking for
At Tsinghua University, I developed and validated a fully distributed GBHM hydrologic model for the 174,000 km² Upper Indus Basin, achieving NSE values of 0.80–0.88 across sub-catchments. I use long-term in-situ, satellite, and reanalysis data to assess glacier melt, water-balance change, and climate-sensitive basin planning.
Previously, through NUST and the JICA/UNESCO Pakistan Flood Warning & Management Capacity Enhancement Project, I helped raise flood-forecast accuracy from 47% to 88% at critical Indus tributary gauging stations. I also co-edited UNESCO technical manuals, standardized IFAS/RRI workflows, trained modelers, and coordinated international workshops for government and water-management stakeholders.
My work connects hydrologic research, geospatial data, machine learning, and operational water management. I have also taught Hydraulics and Hydrology, supervised graduate research, and contributed to groundwater, wastewater treatment, and heritage-protection projects.
