Simmaco Cocchiaro
@simmacococchiaro
Backend engineer for autonomous drone flight systems, building event-driven microservices for UTM.
What I'm looking for
I’m a backend engineer building the systems behind autonomous drone flight, focused on distributed, event-driven backends in Node.js/TypeScript and a Java background. I work in the Unmanned Traffic Management (UTM) domain on EU projects integrating drones into civil airspace.
At Engage S.R.L., I designed and built microservices in TypeScript and Moleculer.js for a cloud platform simulating autonomous drone flight. I developed REST APIs and real-time WebSocket services using an event-driven architecture with NATS, RabbitMQ, and Redis across distributed services.
I also validated near mid-air collision (NMAC) and de-confliction models across multi-day simulation runs with thousands of concurrent drones, supporting EU research for integrating drones into civil and medical airspace.
Previously at Iquadro S.R.L., I engineered microservices using Quarkus, Java SE 21, and RESTful/SOAP APIs for Isypol, a centralized insurance platform. I contributed to legacy system migration and implemented modern architecture patterns with Kafka, PostgreSQL, and MongoDB while ensuring data integrity and system reliability.
