Sara Gomes

I've built molecular diagnostics workflows for HIV-1, hepatitis B/C, SARS-CoV-2, and respiratory infections across clinical laboratory settings in Portugal.

At CITAB at the University of Trás-os-Montes e Alto Douro, I developed a WGS bioinformatics pipeline for SNP-based grapevine cultivar identification and analyzed RNA-seq and metagenomics data for the Vine & Wine Portugal project. I also performed DNA extraction, RT-PCR genotyping, reporting, and consortium presentations.

Previously at Unidade Local de Saúde São José, I performed Illumina-based NGS for HIV-1 antiretroviral resistance testing, real-time PCR viral-load testing, immunoblotting, genotyping, and DNA/RNA extraction. My work has contributed to scientific communications on HIV drug resistance and SARS-CoV-2.

I'm interested in connecting laboratory practice with Python, R, SQL, bioinformatics, molecular diagnostics, and AI applications in health.
