I investigate inflammation and reproductive biology using aquatic model organisms.
What I'm looking for
I've investigated how early-life cortisol exposure affects chronic inflammation in transgenic zebrafish at Mount Desert Island Biological Laboratory.
I use RNA extraction, cDNA synthesis, qRT-PCR, fluorescence microscopy, and image analysis to quantify gene expression and immune cell populations. I also supported screening algal extracts for potential anti-inflammatory compounds.
At Downeast Institute, I studied reproductive senescence in soft-shell clams through dissections, histology preparation, spawning and gamete quantification, and gonadosomatic index determination. I also helped maintain lobsters and deep-sea scallops.
I've presented my zebrafish research at student and biological sciences symposia, completed intensive Drosophila genetics training, and mentored undergraduate researchers as a Resident Advisor.
