Parasitology researcher at Charles University studying Trichomonas vaginalis and its disruption of healthy vaginal microbiota.

Czechia
Message

At Charles University Prague, I investigate how Trichomonas vaginalis affects healthy vaginal microbiota through protein secretion and phagocytosis. My current project found pseudopodia-independent phagocytosis of Lactobacillus jensenii and secreted lysozyme GH25; the resulting publication is under review at PNAS.

During my PhD, I analyzed lysosomal dynamics, phagolysosomal trafficking, protein targeting, and unconventional secretion in T. vaginalis, describing its lysosomal degradome in work that resulted in two publications in Molecular and Cellular Proteomics. I’ve also studied parasitic helminths and trematodes, taught parasitology and laboratory techniques, and supervised students.

Postdoctoral research fellow

Charles University Prague

Jun 2024 - Present (2 years 4 months)

Investigates Trichomonas vaginalis virulence to the healthy vaginal microbiota and the role of protein secretion and phagocytosis in its disruption. Found pseudopodia-independent phagocytosis of Lactobacillus jensenii and the secreted lysozyme GH25.

Visiting scientist

KU Leuven

Oct 2022 - Nov 2022 (1 month)

Trained in human organoid culture (enteroids) and investigated their feasibility as an ex-vivo model for microbe cultivation and host-microbe-microbe interaction studies. Received comprehensive Biosafety (BSL2) training.

CP

PhD. candidate

Charles University Prague

Oct 2016 - Dec 2021 (5 years 2 months)

Analyzed T. vaginalis lysosomal dynamics, phagolysosomal trafficking, protein targeting, and unconventional secretion. Described the lysosomal 'degradome' in this unique organism, resulting in two publications in Molecular and Cellular Proteomics.

NV

Researcher (internship)

Natural History Museum Vienna

Mar 2015 - Sep 2016 (1 year 6 months)

Extracted and analyzed parasitic helminths in mammalian wildlife in Austria, expanding biodiversity knowledge as part of the Austrian Barcode Of Life (ABOL) initiative.

MV

Researcher (MSc. project)

Medical University Vienna

Mar 2015 - May 2016 (1 year 2 months)

Collected aquatic invertebrates from Austrian waterbodies and extracted and identified their digenean trematodes. Generated data to expand epidemiological knowledge on medically relevant trematodes, resulting in risk assignments for waterbodies infested with trichobilharzian trematodes.

NV

Researcher (summer project)

Natural History Museum Vienna

Jun 2014 - Jul 2014 (1 month)

Assisted in the collection of aquatic invertebrates from Austrian waterbodies and extracted and molecularly identified their parasitic trematodes as part of the ABOL initiative.
