Martha Cristina Mayorquin Torres

I am a PhD chemist with extensive experience in organic chemistry, analytical chemistry, laboratory operations, and multidisciplinary research projects in both academic and industrial environments. I have worked for many years in steroidal chemistry and have more recently developed experience in biobased and renewable chemistry through collaborations between Ghent University and industrial partners.

My experience includes laboratory organisation and management, planning and coordinating experimental activities, analytical data interpretation, scientific and technical reporting, and collaboration with multidisciplinary and international teams. I have hands-on experience with analytical techniques such as NMR, GC-MS, LC-MS, HPLC, FTIR, and UV-Vis, as well as scientific software and data analysis tools. I have also supervised and mentored students and contributed to laboratory safety, organisation, materials management and project planning.

During my recent work in Belgium, I collaborated with companies such as Cargill and Circa on projects involving starch chemistry, biobased chemicals and sustainable pharmaceutical synthesis. This gave me valuable experience working at the interface between academic research and industrial applications.

At this stage of my career, I am particularly interested in positions where I can combine my scientific background with coordination, organisation, problem-solving and technical support. I am open to roles such as laboratory or lab operations coordinator, analytical laboratory support, technical or project coordinator, application or product specialist, QA/QC, regulatory or compliance support, and other scientific or technical positions within industry. I am also interested in roles where I can apply my chemistry background without requiring full-time bench research.

I am looking for a long-term position in Belgium or in a role that offers some remote or hybrid flexibility. I enjoy working in multidisciplinary teams, learning new areas, organising complex tasks, and using my scientific knowledge to solve practical problems.
