Maisey Peterson
@maiseypeterson
Botany and ecological field technician who turns native plant research into reliable GIS and data-driven insights.
What I'm looking for
I’m a botany and ecological field professional with hands-on experience in native plant identification, field research, and ecological data management across Utah, Arizona, and the Southwest. I’m deeply passionate about native plant ecology and germination, and I bring a proven ability to work independently in remote, physically demanding field environments.
In my botany roles, I’ve collected native seeds, prepared herbarium vouchers, and documented phenology and field observations. I’ve developed and implemented scientific protocols for seed germination, including cold/heat stratification and mechanical/acid scarification, then managed greenhouse work and analyzed germination results using R.
I also support high-quality data capture and records management—creating and using Survey123 surveys, conducting GIS-based data collection, and performing ecological data entry and quality control with databases and spreadsheets. I’m comfortable working with standard field methods like transects and quadrats, while maintaining safety and clear communication in rugged outdoor conditions.
Alongside technical work, I value clear communication and education. Through STEM Specialist and teaching assistant experience, I led hands-on activities for elementary students, adapted lessons to different learning styles, and supported learners one-on-one—bringing the same organization and problem-solving mindset to every project.
