Katherine Lucas McKay
@katherinelucasmckay
I lead research and policy on household financial security, translating data into action.
What I'm looking for
I serve as the Aspen Institute Financial Security Program Associate Director and senior subject matter expert on household assets, debts, and net worth—covering mortgages and homeownership, retail investments, credit scores and reports, student loans, and consumer debt. I lead the research pillar of the Aspen FSP Future of Wealth initiative, taking work from proposal development through research design, implementation, and impact reporting.
I supervise Insights and Evidence team colleagues and develop complex project plans, facilitating cross-team collaboration across research, events and convenings, partnerships, messaging, and strategic communications. I conduct quantitative analysis in R Studio with large public datasets, and I write survey questionnaires with external partners; I also run qualitative work through structured interviews and focus groups.
I augment research with artificial intelligence tools such as Gemini, NotebookLLM, and Claude, and I author and contribute to research and insights publications across Aspen FSP communications channels. I translate findings into actionable insights for diverse partners, engage media as a subject matter expert, and steward relationships with experts, leaders, and funders across public, nonprofit, academic, financial services, and technology sectors.
