Justin Hawkes
@justinhawkes
I build production AI systems—RAG, multi-agent orchestration, and observability—to make operations measurably smarter.
What I'm looking for
I build production AI systems that make real operations measurably smarter, from architecture to deployment. I shipped a production AI operations platform solo on Azure, delivering cited-answer retrieval over the company’s own documents, a deterministic ingestion pipeline, and an observability layer.
I also built Nova, my own multi-agent assistant, and I’m deliberate about building for the friction people actually hit. My work follows a forward-deployed pattern: embed with operations and sales teams, find the workflow that slows people down, build the system that speeds it up, and ship it to the people doing the work.
Before I focused on AI, I delivered measurable operational impact through engineering and tooling. I built a parametric AutoCAD/VBA program that turned an 8-hour drafting task into about 30 seconds, and I created an Excel-based ordering tool adopted company-wide that saved hours per person per week.
I’m drawn to AI that proves itself in practice: I built Model-Bakeoff, an LLM evaluation harness, and Job-Radar, a multi-source job-discovery engine with retrieval scoring at scale. I bring that same engineering mindset—deterministic pipelines, observability, and real-world constraints—into every system I ship.

Work history, roles, and key accomplishments
Automation Application Engineer
Lift, Inc.
Jan 2024 - Present (2 years 6 months)
Designed and built a production AI operations platform end to end on Azure, including an agentic LLM assistant over the company’s knowledge with cited retrieval, a deterministic ingestion pipeline, and observability. Built a Microsoft Fabric data platform feeding Power BI analytics and supported forward-deployed workflows with operations and sales teams.
Senior Detailer
GES (Global Experience Specialists)
Dec 2021 - Jan 2024 (2 years 1 month)
Built a parametric AutoCAD/VBA program to compile dimensional form inputs into manufacturable 3D models, reducing an 8-hour drafting task to about 30 seconds. Developed an Excel-based ordering tool adopted company-wide and received the Values First Award for business impact.
Application Engineer
Hy-Tek Material Handling, Inc.
Oct 2020 - Dec 2021 (1 year 2 months)
Built an Excel/VBA tool that converted internal estimate formats into a major customer’s proprietary submission format using lookup and mapping tables. Designed material-handling systems aligned to throughput and equipment specs and produced pricing reports and bills of materials.
