Julius Aries Kanneh, Jr

Leads a 2,300+ member developer community delivering study jams, hackathons, and certification programmes across GCP, AI/ML, Android, and Flutter. Operates under a formal Operational Agreement with Rwanda's Ministry of ICT and Innovation (through the ICT Chamber) with a funded 2026 work plan and quarterly KPIs.

Researched computation requirements for deploying an ML-based bird detection and repellent system on resource-constrained hardware for farms in Rwanda. Developed a remote monitoring tool with over-the-air (OTA) update capability for distributed field devices.

Led architecture and full development lifecycle for a multi-platform (mobile, web, backend) system serving real users in production. Implemented CI/CD pipelines and automated testing, and designed/maintained RESTful APIs for mobile and web clients.

Initiated research into computation requirements and early-stage prototyping for an ML-based bird detection system on edge hardware. Worked on early prototypes supporting deployment considerations for large-scale farm use.

Developed and documented software prototypes for robotics and embedded systems projects deployed in Rwandan secondary schools. Contributed to development of a robotics curriculum for secondary schools in Rwanda.

Assisted professors in teaching embedded systems and IoT to 150 undergraduate students and recent graduates over a six-week period. Supported student teams building and documenting IoT-based air quality monitoring systems.

Designed and shipped a production Flutter ride-booking application for iOS and Android handling real user transactions. Focused on delivering user-facing mobile functionality for production use.

Mentored GDSC leaders from Nigeria, Angola, and Rwanda on bridging technical leadership, academic development, and career development. Supported development of leadership capabilities across the student developer community.

Built features for a public Wi-Fi connectivity mobile app serving Kigali residents. Implemented GetX-based dependency injection, state management, routing, and internationalization.

Led 250 student developers at the University of Lay Adventists of Kigali across web, mobile, IoT, and cybersecurity tracks. Coordinated with GDSC leads and the SSA regional team to organise community initiatives reaching 1,500+ student developers.

Provided technical support to students working on IoT projects across multiple hardware platforms. Assisted teams through development efforts for student-led IoT initiatives.
