Julia Putko
@juliaputko
AI/ML software engineer focused on HPC workflows, data formats, and scalable tooling.
What I'm looking for
I am an AI/ML software engineer with hands-on experience designing and implementing scalable tools for HPC and hybrid HPC/AI workflows. I specialize in building inspection, configuration, and data-conversion tooling that improves developer productivity and resource efficiency.
At Hewlett Packard Enterprise I designed a framework for SmartSim to preview properties of complex workflow components, built a reusable inspection tool with Jinja templating, and led a refactor enabling multi-Redis configurations for HPC/AI applications. These efforts reduced development time and improved cross-system compatibility.
My background includes converting proprietary simulation datasets into community formats (VTK, netCDF, HDF5, Xarray) by defining metadata requirements and implementing methods across C, C++, FORTRAN, and Python to enable online analysis and visualization.
I have applied my skills in marine science contexts processing glider data, establishing metadata conventions, porting models into GOTM, and delivering user guides and scientific validation—always emphasizing maintainability, reproducibility, and user-centered tooling.
Experience
Work history, roles, and key accomplishments
Designed and implemented an inspection framework for the open-source SmartSim library to preview hybrid HPC/AI workflow components, reducing user development time and improving HPC resource efficiency; led a refactor enabling name-based configuration and launch of multiple Redis databases for HPC/AI applications.
Derived technical requirements from data-format standards and implemented prescriptive methods in C, C++, FORTRAN, and Python to enable conversion of proprietary SmartRedis datasets to community formats (VTK, netCDF, HDF5, Xarray), enabling online analysis and visualization.
