Janani Walipitiya
@jananiwalipitiya
I run safe, compliant laboratory operations across education and research environments.
What I'm looking for
I support health and safety and laboratory operations at the University of Surrey, managing chemical and clinical waste processes for the School of Biosciences and overseeing autoclave validation and washroom equipment maintenance.
Previously, at Chelsea Academy, I managed a technician team, led training, implemented laboratory health and safety requirements, and developed standard operating procedures and risk assessments aligned with CLEAPSS guidance. I also coordinated suppliers, budgets, chemical purchasing, waste disposal, radiation protection, educational trips, and workshops.
My laboratory background includes science technician work at St. John the Baptist School, development science at Nemaura Pharma, and chemical engineering research at Loughborough University. I've prepared practical equipment and chemical solutions, maintained inventories and apparatus, supported experimental research, analysed data, and worked to SOP, COSHH, GMP, GLP, HSE, and ISO requirements.
Alongside laboratory work, I've supported young adults with learning disabilities through halow project and coordinated events in Sri Lanka and the UK. My upbringing across Sri Lanka, Greece, and the UK has strengthened my commitment to community building, interpersonal relationships, and networking.
