Iriel Joerin

I am a molecular biologist and PhD in Genetics with over 10 years of academic and applied research experience in human population genetics, genomic ancestry, and health-related traits in African-descendant populations. My expertise lies in integrating bioinformatics and statistical approaches for analyzing high-throughput genetic data, including GWAS, RNA-seq, mtDNA, and Y-DNA. I have a strong interest in driving innovation in clinical genomics, equitable healthcare, and personalized medicine.

Throughout my career, I have designed and executed studies that associate genetic ancestry with health indicators, led genomic ancestry analyses in underrepresented populations, and conducted gene expression and RNA-seq data analysis. My contributions to tool development and internal workflows for variant classification and ancestry estimation have been pivotal in advancing our understanding of genetic diversity. I have also published multiple peer-reviewed articles and frequently speak at academic conferences, advocating for bioinformatics and genomic equity.
