Hao Tan

I am an environmental engineer and current MSc Energy and Environment student with hands-on experience in energy efficiency, air pollution mitigation, and life-cycle assessment. I combine laboratory skills with field data collection and quantitative analysis to drive practical sustainability outcomes.

During my bachelor’s research I developed and characterized sulfur-modified biochar for Cu2+ adsorption, using SEM and XRD to optimize adsorption conditions and model thermodynamics and kinetics. I have conducted LCA studies comparing plastic and paper grocery bags under ISO 14040 and performed sensitivity and uncertainty analyses.

At City University I researched energy efficiency strategies for high-rise office buildings and designed modular green wall systems to mitigate PM2.5 and VOCs, using experimental purification measurements and SWOT to shape implementation plans. I also interned in a thermal production & supply department, supporting equipment inspection, documentation, and cross-department communication.

I am proficient in technical and office software, including Simapro LCA, MATLAB (basic), CAD, Word, Excel, and presentation tools, and I bring multilingual communication skills in English, Cantonese, and Mandarin. I seek to apply my analytical and practical skills to sustainable energy and environmental engineering projects.
