Emily Oliver
@emilyoliver
Copy editor and freelance writer who brings clear, consistent AP-style writing to print and digital.
What I'm looking for
I’m a detail-driven copy editor and writer who helps bring magazines, fiction, craft materials, and marketing copy to a polished, publication-ready standard. At Annie’s Publishing, I proofread and correct for clarity, consistency, spelling, punctuation, and grammar, using AP Stylebook, Chicago Manual of Style, and in-house style guides.
I’m hands-on with the tools and workflows that keep production moving—marking changes with tracking in Microsoft Word and using the toolbar in Adobe Acrobat. I also apply styles in Microsoft Word to format documents before layout, so editors and production teams start from a clean foundation.
Beyond editing, I coordinate people and processes: I managed a team of freelance technical editors for knit and crochet publications by assigning work and tracking deadlines. I also route publications between production stages, verify product information, and upload/export reports in FileMaker Pro.
I’ve extended my writing and editorial experience through university work and literary publishing. I’ve scheduled and conducted interviews, written feature articles, blog posts, press releases, social media posts, and direct mail materials, and served as Managing Editor/Associate Editor—reviewing submissions, maintaining a WordPress site, leading weekly staff meetings, and launching a student creative writing scholarship contest.
