Dimitris Giouvanis
@dimitrisgiouvanis
Data analyst and bioinformatician specializing in machine learning and transcriptomics.
What I'm looking for
I am a data analyst and bioinformatician with hands-on experience applying machine learning to behavioral neuroscience and transcriptomics. I combine statistical rigor from my BSc in Statistics with applied bioinformatics training at the master's level to deliver reproducible, data-driven insights.
At Lund University I managed behavioral video datasets, developed preprocessing and training pipelines (YOLO, HRNet32), and trained deep learning models for motion tracking and dyskinesia detection in Parkinson’s disease rodent models. I implemented multi-camera triangulation and collaborated closely with neuroscientists to validate and deploy models.
During my internship at the University of Nova Gorica I completed a diploma thesis on gene expression analysis using PCA and OPLS-DA, performing end-to-end analysis in R-Studio on Linux, emphasizing reproducibility and scientific reporting. I also contributed to a WWF-Hellas hotel kitchen food waste project, collecting and visualizing operational data to support process improvements.
I bring strong programming and data-management skills (Python, R, SQL, Docker, Git), a practical understanding of sequencing and genomic analyses, and a collaborative, teaching-oriented approach. I seek roles where I can apply machine learning and bioinformatics to solve real-world biological or operational problems.
