Deborah Nyabwaya

I’m a Systems Engineer based in Nairobi with 5+ years of hands-on experience keeping enterprise IT infrastructure secure, reliable, and running across Microsoft 365, identity and access management, VMware virtualisation, network security, and disaster recovery.

Day-to-day, that means owning M365 and Windows Server administration, managing identity lifecycles for hundreds of users via Microsoft Entra ID, enforcing Conditional Access and Zero Trust policies, running SIEM platforms for security monitoring, and maintaining DR infrastructure including Oracle DataGuard replication and application failover. I also work across VMware and KVM virtualisation, NetApp and Huawei OceanStor storage, and firewall administration on Sophos and FortiGate, so I’m comfortable with the full infrastructure stack, not just one slice of it.

I’m the kind of engineer who documents everything, builds automation before the manual work becomes a problem, and treats “it works” as the floor, not the ceiling. I write PowerShell the way other people write emails, often and without being asked.

Currently working as an Assistant System Administrator at Geminia General Insurance, where I own everything from M365 administration and PAM deployment to DR readiness and security incident response. Previously at Bayobab Kenya as an Infrastructure Security Engineer, where I led a full enterprise AD-to-Entra ID migration with zero downtime and a complete data centre refresh.

I’m actively pursuing SC-300 and SC-200 certifications, building toward deeper cloud security and identity governance expertise. I’m open to remote and global opportunities in systems engineering, IAM, infrastructure security, or IT operations.

Outside of work, I think a lot about how technology can create leverage — for businesses and for individuals which is what keeps me curious and keeps me building.
