Darren Mareiniss
@darrenmareiniss
Emergency Medicine leader and physician-law bioethicist driving crisis readiness, patient safety, and ethical care.
What I'm looking for
I’m a physician-leader in Emergency Medicine with formal training spanning surgery, Emergency Medicine, and Fellowship in Legal Medicine. I combine clinical command with bioethics and medical-legal perspective to improve how emergency departments prepare, decide, and deliver care.
Currently, I serve as Chairman, Department of Emergency Medicine, at Trinitas Regional Medical Center (RWJBarnabas Health System). In this role, I lead core hospital initiatives through committee work spanning credentialing, process improvement, sepsis, stroke, patient safety, and ICU governance.
During the COVID-19 pandemic, I helped shape ethically grounded resource allocation and crisis standards of care—creating and chairing the “Chair, Ventilator Allocation Committee & Crisis Standards of Care” and contributing to multiple allocation and prioritization efforts. I also drafted protocols for ICU care (including “CPR in the ICU”), vaccine-related guidance, anaphylaxis protocols, and other surge/bedside operational needs.
I also bring academic and program leadership experience—serving as Assistant Program Director and participating in faculty appointments, while supporting disaster response and healthcare policy work. My professional ethos is clear: rigorous planning, transparent decision-making, and patient safety anchored in ethics, law, and real-world emergency care.
