Daniel Goodwin

At Birmingham Fire and Rescue, I serve as a Sergeant and acting Lieutenant for Station 3's specialty battalion, which cross-staffs Engine 3 and Hazmat 3. I supervise shift operations, incident decision-making, crew accountability, and rapid transitions between structural fire and hazardous materials response.

Since joining Birmingham Fire and Rescue in 2018, I've responded to structure fires, medical emergencies, hazardous materials incidents, and technical rescues. I routinely took on acting-officer responsibilities before promotion, evaluating personnel performance, maintaining apparatus readiness, and mentoring incoming firefighters on procedures and scene safety.

I'm a Fire and Emergency Services Instructor I, Fire Officer I, Hazmat/WMD Technician, and Advanced EMT. My work centers on making sound decisions under time pressure, evaluating outcomes against protocols, and clearly communicating technical judgment in high-stakes environments.

I'm pursuing AI training and model evaluation work where I can apply real-world fire, EMS, and hazardous materials expertise to help assess safety-critical responses.
